POZE MAGAZINE
You’ve brought together an impressive group of
musicians on Tongue and Groove. What was the
creative process like with such a talented lineup?
They’re all longtime friends who I love to work
with, so it was fun and inspiring. Lots of laughs
and moving musical moments. I am a
collaborator, and I love working with people who
inspire me and take me places musically that I
haven’t explored before.
Growing up in Shady Grove, Alabama, clearly
influenced this album. Can you tell us how your

CUNNINGHAM
I grew up singing gospel music with my family.
We sang every day and performed every Sunday
BUCK and most Saturday nights at churches and
JOHNSON auditoriums throughout the southeast. My mom
is a fantastic pianist, and my dad was a singer.
TRIBUTE TO They had a Southern Gospel group called The
LIFE’S Johnson Brothers Quartet, and I was on stage
singing with them from the time I was around 6. I
UNBREAKABLE knew at a young age that music was what I
BONDS Tongue wanted to do for the rest of my life. I wanted to
learn to play the piano like my mom and sing
and Groove: A with the spirit and conviction like my dad. I was
Self-Produced also lucky to have some older cousins who turned
Album with me onto The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and all
the English artists from the 60s and 70s who were
Legendary Rock influenced by the music I grew up singing.
