Q&A w/Nakia Burrise Poze Magazine Your latest film, Back to
Bridgewood, is an inspirational comedy about
resilience and self-discovery. What inspired
you to take on this role?
Nakia Burrise I wanted to create and embody
a character that felt personal to me while also
reflecting aspects of my own life. Liz is
someone you can cheer for, yet at times, she’ll
make you want to pull your hair out. I love
taking the audience on that emotional ride
with her—it deepens their connection and
keeps them fully invested in the journey.
Poze Magazine Liz Johnson’s journey takes
her from fame to rock bottom and then back to
self-discovery. What do you think makes her
story so relatable?
Nakia Burrise Liz’s story resonates with many
because almost everyone has faced failure or
hit rock bottom at some point. These
moments, though difficult, often serve as
catalysts for growth, resilience, and deeper
self-discovery. For Liz, losing everything was
necessary to reveal her true faith, purpose, and
inner strength, allowing her to rebuild with a
stronger foundation.
Poze Magazine The film blends comedy with
heartfelt moments. How did you approach
balancing humor with the deeper themes of
faith and transformation?
Nakia Burrise I believe it's essential to
incorporate humor and lighthearted fun when
sharing life lessons. It makes the message
more approachable and engaging without
feeling like you're preaching or overwhelming
the audience.
