• Prof Tonderayi Matambo received two major grants for his ground-breaking research on
the production of biogas. Research grants awarded by the United Nations Industrial
Development Organization (UNIDO) in partnership with the Department of Forestry,
Fisheries, and the environment (DFFE).

2022 Research and Innovation Awards winners from CSET

On Friday, 03 June 2022,Unisa through its Research, Innovation and Commercialization portfolio,
celebrated excellence in research and innovation displayed by its academic scholars over the 2020/2021
period. Researchers working towards providing African solutions to African problems, and most
importantly, placing the academic project at the center of all of their endeavors within the university, were
recognized and awarded under various categories. Amongst those who were celebrated on the night, the
following staff members from Unisa CSET were recognized:

Principal's award for Excellence in research winner: Prof Usisipho Feleni
The second highest award for research at UNISA. The award is targeted at young and developing
researchers aged younger than 35 years or groups that have achieved academic research of the
highest quality. This award provides R50 000.00 in funding and a certicate of recognition.
