In 2023, Unisa will be celebrating is 150th birthday. At CSET will be celebrating in style through the following
events and projects:

Installation of Biogas and renewable Energy supplies to 150 homes across the country - researchers from the
Institute for Catalysis and Energy Sustainability (ICES) (formerly IDEAS – will be leading this project).

A Mother of all Learner Research summits (As part of CSET's Engagement Scholarship activities, and provides
the learners with an opportunity to present and showcase their innovative research projects). High school
learners are to be trained to become researcher right at that tender age. Therefore, an existing Learner
Research Summit (LRS) project hosted by CSET and CLAW needs to be expanded to provide a structure
through which many high school learners in Gauteng Province can demonstrate mastery of research-based
project, and research presentation skills that is driven by their own interest in a topic. This allows them to work
within the same parameters as experienced researchers. While the projects can assess the learners'
knowledge of content, concepts and skills, the level of depth and complexity to which they have understood
them, it also allows learners to think deeply and analytically and to question a topic which has particular
resonance and meaning for them.

"Open Campus" where Industry and External stakeholders come to see our campus and be taken through the
infrastructure and its capabilities
Thematic conferences that will include International collaborators, Industry, government, parastatals, private
sector (where Innovation, Research and commercialization converge).

Conferences already identied include:
8th International Water Association Specialist Conference on Natural Organic Matter (NOM8) and the IWA
Particle Separation Conference. These will be hosted back-to-back from 3 - 8 December 2023. The
conferences will be hosted by Unisa and the Institute for Nanotechnology and Water Sustainability, and will be
hosted for the rst time in Africa.

Hosting the 22nd European Conference on e-Learning in conjunction with the College. This will be held at the
end of October 2023.

Industrial Engineering Department at CSET to host a "Lean Manufacturing" symposium. The Lean
manufacturing phenomenon addresses the elimination waste in value creation and proposition as far as
processes are concerned. This presents a capability of turning things around in all of Unisa systems in terms of
processes if it would rise and make a lot of good noise. The symposium aims to add value in Unisa processes
and systems when adopted.
