XL YNE line up before the match vs Yorkshire Gents
Amongst the remaining games of the season, we managed to t in two September school games, one against Hudders eld New College and another new xture at the impressive Scarborough College. Sadly, Scarborough’s pavilion was destroyed in a re in the recent past and, whilst a replacement has not yet been built, it did not detract from the otherwise imposingly grand school building which provided the backdrop to a ne day’s play.
To say that the rst half of the season was cancelled, getting onto the eld 15 times was a pleasing end result, especially as we won eight of
Gents (even though it actually led to us losing the game!).
2021 promises to be an exciting year in our District. We have the hon- our of hosting the MCC jointly with the East Mid- lands District at Tickhill CC on 26th August and head to the county ground at Scarborough CC in June to take on Scarborough College. There are some 30 xtures already con rmed (more to follow!) with further schools from yesteryear back on the xture list.
New xtures are lined up against the Yorkshire Cricket College and Old Amplefordians. A rst foray on our own two feet for a number of years in the Inter-District tournament also beckons (be gentle with us Phil!).
We now have a small sub-committee looking speci cally at expansion into the North East area of our District, with a number of games up in that region to spread our reach. Membership enquiries across the District continue and our Whatsapp player group now has more than 100 members. With at least 30 xtures scheduled for this summer
those games. Most importantly from my perspec- tive as DC is the increased number of players now enjoying their cricket with The Forty Club; 69 players took the eld for the District in 2020,
the vast majority of whom are now members. Playing highlights of the season included Chris Stride hoovering up wickets to become the club’s leading wicket taker in 2020 and Shaun Storey taking a stunning re ex catch against the Yorkshire
comprising a mixture of traditional school games, good club xtures, a few Sunday games and some T20s, every member has the chance to get involved this year.
Fingers crossed that everybody stays safe and healthy, and we look forward to seeing you all on the eld in 2021.
