The Insurance Times

Factors which affect morbidity:

Age Premium charged by insurer depends on age and degree of
                     risk
Gender Since the chances of contracting disease in children and old
Habits people are more the premium is higher.
Occupation
Family history After certain age say 45 years the insurers are more careful in
granting the cover. After this age chances of contracting disease
                     increases

Though overall there is not much difference as to morbidity in
gender but in case of a woman at the time of pregnancy the
risk increases. Insurers usually exclude maternity from
coverage since it is almost certain that a woman could conceive
                     sometimes or later.

Health of a person is directly affected by his habits. Person
consuming tobacco, alcohol, drugs, narcotics or any other
such products has more chances of contracting illness or
                     disease.

The occupation of person has a direct bearing on the risk to
be covered. If a person is engaged in hazardous occupation
like mining industry, asbestos industry, coal processing, the
risk of contracting disease increases. As a result insurance
                     companies charge more premium.

Many diseases pass on to the next generation genetically. In
some diseases if a person has family history of diseases, the
chances of suffering from the same diseases increases. For
                     example Asthma.
