                   OCTOBER 3
                        And stick out the tongue? Prepare the way,
                        Are you not children of transgression, Take the stumbling block out of the
                        Offspring of falsehood, way of My people.”
                     5 Inflaming yourselves with gods under 15
                           every green tree, For thus says the High and Lofty One
                        Slaying the children in the valleys, Who inhabits eternity, whose name is
                                                                 Holy:
                        Under the clefts of the rocks?
                     6 Among the smooth stones of the stream “I dwell in the high and holy place,
                        Is your portion; With him who has a contrite and
                                                                 humble spirit,
                        They, they, are your lot! To revive the spirit of the humble,
                        Even to them you have poured a drink And to revive the heart of the contrite
                           offering,
                                                                 ones.
                        You have offered a grain offering. 16 For I will not contend forever,
                        Should I receive comfort in these?
                                                               Nor will I always be angry;
                     7 “On a lofty and high mountain For the spirit would fail before Me,
                        You have set your bed; And the souls which I have made.
                        Even there you went up 17 For the iniquity of his covetousness
                        To offer sacrifice.                    I was angry and struck him;
                     8 Also behind the doors and their posts I hid and was angry,
                        You have set up your remembrance; And he went on backsliding in the way
                        For you have uncovered yourself to of his heart.
                           those other than Me,            18  I have seen his ways, and will heal him;
                        And have gone up to them; I will also lead him,
                        You have enlarged your bed And restore comforts to him
                        And made a covenant with them; And to his mourners.
                        You have loved their bed, 19 “I create the fruit of the lips:
                        Where you saw their nudity.
                     9 You went to the king with ointment, Peace, peace to him who is far off and
                                                                 to him who is near,”
                        And increased your perfumes; Says the LORD,
                        You sent your messengers far off, “And I will heal him.”
                        And even descended to Sheol.
                                                           20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea,
                     10 You are wearied in the length of
                           your way; When it cannot rest,
                        Yet you did not say, ‘There is no hope.’ Whose waters cast up mire and dirt.
                        You have found the life of your hand; 21 “There is no peace,”
                        Therefore you were not grieved. Says my God, “for the wicked.”
                     11  “And of whom have you been afraid,    “Cry aloud, spare not;
                           or feared,                    58 Lift up your voice like a trumpet;
                        That you have lied Tell My people their transgression,
                        And not remembered Me, And the house of Jacob their sins.
                        Nor taken it to your heart? 2 Yet they seek Me daily,
                        Is it not because I have held My peace And delight to know My ways,
                           from of old As a nation that did righteousness,
                        That you do not fear Me? And did not forsake the ordinance of
                        I will declare your righteousness their God.
                     12
                        And your works, They ask of Me the ordinances of
                        For they will not profit you.            justice;
                     13 When you cry out, They take delight in approaching God.
                        Let your collection of idols deliver you. 3 ‘Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and You
                        But the wind will carry them all away, have not seen?
                        A breath will take them. Why have we afflicted our souls, and
                        But he who puts his trust in Me shall You take no notice?’
                           possess the land,
                        And shall inherit My holy mountain.” “In fact, in the day of your fast you find
                                                                 pleasure,
                     14 And one shall say, And exploit all your laborers.
                       “Heap it up! Heap it up! 4 Indeed you fast for strife and debate,
