(20) Again, privately, in an 1808 letter to his brother Jerome, Napoleon makes
his assimilation plans clear: "I have undertaken to reform the Jews, but I have
not endeavored to draw more of them into my realm. Far from that, I have
avoided doing anything which could show any esteem for the most despicable of
mankind." (21)
Napoleon's outreach to the Jews was intended to eventually assimilate them as
Frenchmen. To a hard-core Jew, this is a big ‘no-no’!
