Prior to joining Covington, Amanda served as an AUSA in the Southern District of New York (SDNY) for
more than 11 years. During her tenure, she was a senior member of SDNY’s Securities and Commodities
Fraud Task Force and served as its Human Trafficking and Project Safe Childhood Coordinator, where
she developed and significantly expanded SDNY’s work on trafficking and sexual misconduct issues,
conducted numerous domestic and international trainings, supervised dozens of prosecutors, and led
some of the SDNY’s most sensitive cases. Amanda’s extensive litigation experience includes leading
twelve federal criminal jury trials and briefing and arguing numerous appeals before the U.S. Court of
Appeals for the Second Circuit. For the last four years of her tenure as a federal prosecutor, Amanda
conducted trial advocacy training for all new AUSAs in the SDNY’s Criminal Division.
Joan Loughnane, a partner at Sidley Austin LLP, represents corporations and
individuals in criminal cases and investigations. She joined Sidley in 2018 after
serving for 16 years in the United States Attorney’s Office for the SDNY. Joan
held a series of leadership roles in that Office, including Chief Counsel to the U.S.
Attorney and Acting Deputy United States Attorney, where she oversaw more than
200 prosecutors and lawyers in the office’s criminal and civil divisions. Prior to
her supervisory roles, Joan spent the earlier part of her 15-year career as a federal
prosecutor investigating and trying cases in a variety of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s
trial units, including the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force and the Violent Crimes Unit.
Joan has been repeatedly recognized for her leadership, public service, and litigation experience. Joan
was recognized in the 2022 edition of Chambers USA: Litigation: White-Collar Crime & Government
Investigations, where clients reported that “[s]he has impeccable judgment” and describe her as “a
terrific lawyer.” She was named one of Benchmark’s “Top 250 Women in Litigation” for 2022, and
recognized in Benchmark Litigation’s 2021 directory in the areas of general commercial, securities, and
white collar litigation.
Daniel Stein, a partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, is Co-Head of Weil’s global White
Collar Defense, Regulatory and Investigations practice. A former federal prosecutor,
Dan has more than 20 years of experience in regulatory enforcement, government
and internal investigations, white collar criminal defense, and complex civil litigation.
He counsels financial services firms and other public and private companies, as
well as individual clients, in connection with a broad range of complex situations,
including SEC and FINRA investigations and enforcement actions. He is currently
recognized among the leading white collar lawyers in New York by Chambers USA, and is nationally
recommended for corporate investigations and white collar crime by Legal 500 US.
