serious way because I like to pick based on conformation more than anything else, but I am not afraid to return to the blood especially two or three generations. I really like to do that. I am not a huge believer in it, but there are times when it seems to work. Look, it is not that every great decision works out, but sometimes you make mistakes and that goes with the territory. Generally speaking, I would like a 2x3 cross or 3x3 cross even better. Sometimes we vary it a little bit.”
He continued, “I want to emphasize in a minor way, I think it can work, but I think you can overdo it. People have done some really strange things breeding very close up in the family. Half-brothers and sisters, but there is nothing wrong with breeding granddaughter of a stallion to a grandson of a stallion. Our major emphasis is on conformation. If a horse is better at finishing a race than starting, I try to get a stallion that can fly out of the box. Trying to make up for any weakness that might be in the mare and vice versa.”
