determined neck at the finish line. On Nyx covered the 300-yard distance in :15.441, earning a 97 speed index.
In breaking her maiden in the Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity, the black filly earned $135,905 for the victory. That deposit brings her career total from just two starts to a respectable $136,905.
On Nyx was bred in New Mexico by Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches LP. She races for owner TYKHE Racing LLC.
The filly is conditioned by Alonso Neri, who qualified three for these finals. Neri indicated that On Nyx benefitted greatly from her stakes debut and will now be pointed toward the Sam Houston Futurity-G2 on May 28. Trials for that futurity are scheduled for May 7 and 8.
“Honestly, these two year olds have to learn from their first start,” stated Neri.
“After her trial, we took her back to the farm to make sure she was okay,” he continued. “Today, everything clicked and we are blessed to see this filly run such a great race.”
On Nyx is produced from the winning Favorite Cartel mare Truly Favorite. She broke her maiden at Los Alamitos in 2016.
Truly Favorite descends from the female family of A Delightful Legacy, a daughter of
First Down Dash who won the All American Juvenile Invitational Stakes-RG3 in 2003 and went on to produce two-time Champion Inseparable. As a sire, Inseperable became a Grade 1 stakes sire from his first crop to race.
A Delightful Legacy also produced Seperate Interest. The Grade 3 winning son of Separatist was the #4 Leading First Crop Yearling Sale Sire in 2018. Seperate Interest won the Kaweah Bar Handicap-G3, Z Wayne Griffin Invitational and Town Policy Stakes.
The second dam of On Nyx is winner Truly A Delight, who has produced 100% winners from four starters. Those winners include stakes placed Separate Delight,
who ran third in the AQRA President’t Fall Futurity; and Glen Ellyn, who ran third in the Canterbury Park Distaff Challenge.
Runner-up Lucky Dice (One Sweet Jess- Fodice) finished a game second for own-
ers J and J Stone Co., Inc. Trained by Joel Huitron, the sorrel colt had regular rider David Alvarez aboard in both the Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity trials and finals. And, he was beaten by just a neck in both his outs. Lucky Dice was second to fastest quali- fier Running A Big Wave in his career debut on March 13 in the trials. Gentry Farms bred Lucky Dice in Kentucky.
El Gansito (The Louisiana Cartel-Going Separate Ways) has come in third in both of his starts so far as a freshman. The brown colt finished third behind Running A Big Wave and Lucky Dice in the March 13 trials to this race. He made that run under rider Nestor Duran, however, did not make it
back for the finals. It was jockey Ali River who picked up the mount. The pair did not break well from the outside nine-post, get- ting the seventh call from the gates, but they finished a rallying third. El Gansito is owned by Arturo Equivel. The colt is trained by Adrian Huitron, who also had the sixth-place finisher in this race. El Gansito was bred in Texas by Fillimon Saucedo.
The ninth-fastest qualifier, Kosmos Spoetzl (Five Bar Cartel-Shiner Blond), fin- ished in fourth place. Betterton (Duponte- Fast N Fancy) continued over the line in fifth place and was followed by
Coronadito (Coronado Cartel-Winners Check), fastest qualifier Running A Big Wave (Big Daddy Cartel-Wave Running), Bombay Shaker (Hez Our Secret-Corona Pearl) and Fiery Passage (Walk Thru Fire-Desert Passage). My Dynasty Kiss was an early scratch but still received tenth place money.
