aking his first-ever start in New Mexico,
Daniel Kjorsvik’s Holy Storm led at every call en route to a 3/4-length victory in the $35,000 Sandia Stakes at Albuquerque Downs on Oct. 24.
Holy Storm covered 870 yards in :45.357 while earning a 103 speed index and the $16,800 winner’s share of the purse from his first stakes win. Ramiro Garcia rode the gelding for trainer Tomey Swan.
Holy Storm was coming off of a second-place finish, 3/4-length behind winner Faster Than Hasta, in the 870-yard Covered Bridges Stakes-G3 at Prairie Meadows on Sept. 25.
A $12,500 claimer during the Remington Park spring meet, Holy Storm has won six of 29 starts -- including four of 12 at the 870 distance -- and he has banked $98,949. His record includes a second-place finish in last year’s $59,900 Minnesota Derby for state-bred sophomores at Canterbury Park.
Kjorsvik bred Holy Storm out of winner Holy White Socks TB. Kjorsvik claimed Holy White Socks for $5,000 at Hawthorne Racecourse near Chicago in 2014.
Faster Than Hasta (Hasta Be Fast- Leadmetoyourladder) finished second and earned $7,175 for his owner, John G. Johnson. Brett Birzer rode the gelding for trainer Robert Johnson. Faster Than Hasta was coming off a victory in the Covered Bridges Stakes-G3.
J Boy A (Jess Zoomin-Mighty Classy Lassy)
ran third under Francisco Amparan for owner and trainer Thomas W. Gonzales. The gelding was fifth in the Pauls Valley Stakes-G2 in April.
Mahoney N Tacklebery (Favorite Cartel-Fountain Bleu) finished fourth and was followed by even-money favorite Nicos First Cartel (First Prize Perry-Cartel Moon), Loan Sharky (Parsons Rock-Lil Sharky), Jess Humblenkind (Jess Got Easier-Alltheshine) and Eyesa Superstitious (Agouti-Eyesa Precious).

the $40,000 Pitre GMC Distaff Stakes on Oct. 24. Sinsational Tacha and Easily Lethal both
stopped the timer in :19.677 for 400 yards, finish- ing a neck in front. Mauro Salcedo rode Sinsational Tacha for owner Alejandro Arzabala Jr. and trainer Martin Orona Sr., and Sergio Dominguez rode Easily Lethal for owners Peggy and Mark Brown, who is also the trainer.
Sinsational Tacha was bred by Bob and Jerry Gaston out of stakes placed Miss Sin Tacha. Sinsational Tacha has won five of 26 starts with earn- ing’s of $99,076. Abigail Kawananakoa bred Easily Lethal out of winner Pretty Lethal. Easily Lethal has won two of 10 races and has banked $21,681.
Docs River Spirit (Jess Jones-Eye Spy Valletta) was third for trainer Bernard Baca and owner Norman E. Hollingsworth. Cody Smith was up.
Corazon Rastado 727 (The Louisiana Cartel-Sheza Princess Belle) and Black Shadow (One Sweet Jess-Only Sister) dead heated for fourth, followed by Zendayas Cartel (Big Daddy Cartel-Real Dancing Dottie), Royallittlewagon (Paintyourownwagon-Royal Lil Strike), New Blood Cartel (Big Daddy Cartel-Sugar Beats), Jess Zoomin Senator (Louisiana Senator-JZ Annie) & Taormina (FDD Dynasty-KR Dragonfly). Dashin Special Cuz was scratched.

Jose Aguilar Mendoza’s Senor Frogs scored his second career stakes victory in the 440-yard $40,000 Downs Casino Stakes at Albuquerque Downs on Oct. 24.
Senor Frogs made his quarter-mile trip in :21.269, and his winning margin was a nose from favorite DF Lord Garvan. Hector Aldrete rode Senor Frogs for trainer Eloy Navarro.
Senor Frogs earned a 98 speed index and the $18,400 winner’s share of the $40,000 purse.
Senor Frogs was the lone 3 year old in the Downs Casino Stakes field. Campaigned in four states, including California, Senor Frogs has won six of
14 starts including last year’s $38,000 Grants Pass Firecracker Futurity in Oregon, and he has banked $76,458. His resume includes a second-place finish, a head behind winner Ms Patty Cake, in last year’s $117,000 Wild West Futurity at Los Alamitos.
Michael and Shannon McKay bred Senor Frogs out of winner Nellie Soprano. She has produced 100% money earners from six starters. Senor Frogs is her first stakes winner.
DF Lord Garvan (Apollitical Jess-Three Green Leaves) finished second under Mario Delgado for owner Darling Farms and trainer Casey Black.
Kowboy Jim (FDD Dynasty-Counting On You) and jockey Cody Smith came in third for owner/ trainer Dean Frey.
