FIVE BAR JEWEL
by Danny Camp
Five Bar Jewel secured his first stakes win in the $30,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes at Evangeline Downs on Oct. 24.
The 4-year-old sorrel gelding stepped away from the 2-post under Everardo Rodriguez and quickly took control. The pair held a steady lead throughout the 330 yards, crossing the wire 1/2-length in front in :16.404, good for a 104 speed index.
Five Bar Jewel earned the $18,000 first place check for owner Jose Ernesto Guzman and trainer Alonso Neri, boosting his total bankroll to $107,940. He now has a race record of 16-5(1)-1(1)-3.
Richard and Janelle Simon bred Five Bar Jewel out of winner First Down Hemp. She has produced 14 winners from 20 starters, including top earner and multiple graded stakes winner Jet Black Patriot, who set a New Track Record in the 2008 Mardi Gras Futurity-RG2 and was second in that year’s All American Futurity-G1.
One Fast Perry (Fast Prize Jordan-De Bell Perry) ran second under Leonardo Rodriguez
for owner Eddie Harrison and trainer Lanny Keith. The gelding was third in the Leverne Perry Memorial earlier this year.

De Saix Stakes
TOASTINTRESCORONAS
by Tracy Gantz
Toastintrescoronas successfully transferred his win- ning Delta Downs form to Evangeline Downs when he captured the $28,700 De Saix Stakes on Oct. 2.
Despite winning two consecutive races at Delta Downs, Toastintrescoronas went off as the 12-1 fifth choice. He rewarded his backers with a $27.40 win payoff as he overcame a light bump at the start to grab the lead early and score by 1-length under jockey Juan Garcia Jr. Toastintrescoronas completed the 330 yards in :16.726 for a 93 speed index.
Trey Ellis trains Toastintrescoronas for owner/breeder Gene Cox. Ellis first raced Toastintrescoronas at Remington Park, where the gelding got a second and a third from three starts before heading to Delta Downs.
Cox bred the gelding out of homebred Toastin With Coronas, who finished second in the 2016 French Quarter Stakes and third in the 2016 Louisiana Champions Day Derby. Toastintrescoronas is Toastin With Coronas’ first starter.
Antonio Alberto rode Runaway Fast Dash (Sir Runaway Dash-Fast Girl Friend) to second for owner Down South Racing LLC and trainer Ned Goutierrez III. Runaway Fast Dash won his trial for the Lee Berwick Futurity-RG1 at Delta Downs and finished fourth in the final.
Ellis also trains third-place LRH La Woman (Apollitical Blood-CR Tamarisk), a homebred for Jetty and Donald Lemaire. LRH La Woman previ- ously had won two races and finished second once. Bobby Ransom rode the filly.
Completing the field were He B Swift (Freighttrain B-Eye Be Swift), D Cosmic Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-Special Love Shack), Boxcar (Freighttrain B-Wood Be Charming), Carbonero Train (Freighttrain B-Shimmering Crystal), and Jettin Cartel (Carters Cartel-Fishers Jetsetter). Five Crazy Bars and Hes Innocent were scratched.
Gentilly Dash
ON POINT
by John Moorehouse
Coming off a third-place finish in the Flying Breed Stakes that put him in black type, On Point scored his first-ever victory in stakes company
in the $30,000 Gentilly Dash held at Evangeline Downs on Oct. 3.
On Point left little doubt in this one, leading
at every call of the 300-yard event. He broke on top from the 4-post, led by a head as he entered the stretch, then pulled away to reach the wire with a 1/2-length margin of victory.
TM Ranch owns On Point, who tallied his fifth triumph in 13 career starts. The $21,000 winner’s share of the purse pushed his lifetime earnings into six figures at $110,832. On Point also contributed to a stellar showing for his other connections. Trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. and jockey David Alvarez com- bined to win three races on the 10-race Oct. 3 card.
Ryan and Jude Robicheaux bred On Point out of lightly raced La Jollan Queen. She produced eight starters, and now features two stakes winners in the brood. The other is RDD Lajollanfastdash, who won two graded futurities on the Louisiana circuit in 2016.
The Cazador (Sir Runaway Dash-Told Ya) fin- ished second for owner Rayne Knight. The Michael Zingelmann trainee had Donald Watson in the irons.
Mardi Gras Paint (PYC Paint Your Wagon- Royal Quick Dash) hit the board in third for owner Jose Alfonso Ramos and trainer Miguel Rodriguez. Leonardo Rodriguez was aboard.
The remaining order of finish included Mag 1 (Mr Jess Kue-Oak Tree Chic), RF Fast Dash N Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Fast Dash N Deb), Tuckers Prize (Fast Prize Dash-BB Secrets Game), Corona Down Perry (Coronas Leaving You-Second Down Perry), HH Gailforce (Freighttrain B-Open My Prize), Brileys Prize (AJs Fast Dash-Ms Wandas Prize), and Jess A Runaway Blaze (Sir Runaway Dash-SV Oh Jessie Fly).
