Mid-City Stakes-RG3
MPSHINNING

Proving that he’s still got what it takes, 2018 LQHBA Louisiana Million winner Mpshinning returned to the scene of his greatest score with a win
in the $40,000 Mid-City Stakes-RG3 at Evangeline Downs on Oct. 22.
With Everardo Rodriguez in the irons for trainer Adrian Huitron, the colt broke sharply from the rail post and ran off from there, coasting by 1 1/2-lengths in :21.499 for the 440 yards. Sent off as the 6-5 favorite, Mpshinning earned $24,000 and a 107 speed index. He now has a record of 20-10 (5)-5 (4)-0 and $785,045.
The win extended Mpshinning’s best season since his freshman year, when he won the Gillespie County Fair Futurity and ran second in the Dash For Cash Futurity-G2 at Lone Star Park before winding up with the LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity-RG1 at Evangeline.
Owned by Larry J. Boudreaux, Mpshinning opened his 2020 campaign with a fourth place finish in the Eastex Stakes-G2 and ran back in the Leo Stakes-G1 in May. Mpshinning came into the Mid- City Stakes off a second in the Louisiana Classic-G2.
Bred by Jon and Donna McPherson, Mpshinning is the first stakes winner out of unraced Shinningperrydash, who has produced two other winners from four starters.
Tuckers Prize (Fast Prize Dash-BB Secrets Game) and jockey J. Ramirez finished second for owner/ trainer Preston Jourdan. Barjaxs (Jess Louisiana Blue-Elealicious) was third under Donald Watson for owner Ed Peters and trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr.
Fabulously Black (Game Patriot-Fabulously Fast) was fourth place and was followed across the finish line by Lightemupwithcharm (Sizzlin Cartel-Grace Filled Charm), El Predator (Freighttrain B-Told Ya), Beyondthecos (Tee Cos-Beyondthegame) and DLJ Imma Be Famous (Coronas Leaving You-Yugo Buds).
LQHBA Sale Juvenile
JESS SWEET TIME

The $40,000 LQHBA Sale Juvenile featured horses from the Oct. 1 trials for the LQHBA Sale Futurity-RG1, with preference by order of the fastest times of horses that failed to qualify for the LQHBA Sale Futurity final.
Going to post at 5-2 odds, Jess Sweet Time pulled away late to win the Juvenile by 1-length. Covering 350 yards in :17.517, the gelding earned $24,000 and a 95 speed index, while pushing his career earnings to $43,170.
Jess Sweet Time was ridden by Juan Francisco Garcia Jr. The gelding is owned by the Grand Bay, Alabama-based partnership of Roland Frederick, Cory Mouton and Trey Ellis, who also trains Jess Sweet Time.
Bred by James Sistrunk, Jess Sweet Time is the first starter from three foals out of the winning Game Patriot mare Track Shaker, who is a half-sister to stakes winners La Mos Chingono and B And
G Fast Dash, both by Heza Fast Dash, and the Apollitical Blood gelding Pollitical Blood.
Shortstop Express (Freighttrain B-Allizoom) finished second under Ubaldo Luna for owner Jose Estrada Quarter Horses and trainer Joel Huitron. The filly was a finalist in the Lee Berwick Futurity-G1.
Tttroyalityntheblood (Apollitical Blood-Royality N The Makin) and jockey Ricardo Hernandex Jr. were third for owner Rickey Thompson and trainer Jose Carrizales.
Lafitte (Sir Runaway Dash-Me And My Only), La Savanne (Jet Black Patriot-Miss Phoebes O Toole), Ho Lotta Patriot (Game Patriot-Ho Lotta Speed), Apollitcal Bye (Apollitical Blood-Swiftone), Jaggers Delta One (One Sweet Jess-Deltalicious), Little Red Rogue (Heza Fast Rogue-Making Amends) and B Sweet (Freighttrain B-Sweet But Wicked) completed the order of finish.
Faubourg St. John Stakes
CANSELMAN

The $25,000 Faubourg St. John Stakes was rescheduled from Oct. 10, when racing at Evangeline Downs was cancelled due to Hurricane Delta. Using the extra time to get in extra shape, Canselman wore down his rivals in the stretch of the 870 yards, edged clear and drew off to defeat 10-1 longshot Jessi Jam and second-favorite Louisana Dressblues by 2-lengths.
The gelding toured the distance in :46.166, earn- ing $15,000 and a 93 speed index. Canselman was trained for the Fauberg St. John by Rosendo Valdez Jr. and was ridden to the wire by Luciano Duenez. The first-place check increased Canselman’s career earnings to $61,450.
This victory marks Canselman’s seventh win in 15 lifetime starts and his second in a stakes. The geld- ing earned his first black type with a daylight score in the Marathon Stakes on Jan. 11 at Louisiana Downs.
Bred by Steve D. Burns DVM, Canselman was making his first start for new owner Miguel A. Vargas, who claimed Canselman for $7,500 out of a 7-length winning effort on Sept. 5 at Lone Star Park.
Burns bred Canselman out of multiple stakes win- ner Fall For It. She has produced 100% money earners from 11 starters, including Canselman’s full brother Ballast Point, who won the Snowbound Superstar Stakes. Canselman is her second stakes winner.
Jessi Jam (Jet Black Patriot-Royal Rio Miss) and jockey C.J. McMahon finished in second for owner Mo Racing and trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. Ridden by Juan Garcia Jr., Louisiana Dressblues (Jess Louisiana Blue-Charlomaine) was third for owner Wilson One Consulting LLC and trainer Trey Ellis.
Desire Astoli (Desirio-Stoli Victory), Abygale (Stellar Rain TB-Tres Dia Noche) and Eton (Jess Louisiana Blue-En Trepeins Jewel) completed the order of finish. Coastal Confessions and KW Cowboy were scratched.
