Autumn Handicap
FOOSES FLYER
Fby John Moorehouse
ooses Flyer soared into blacktype status on Oct.
12, scoring the victory in the $26,000 Autumn Derby held at Grants Pass.
Although this was the first blacktype win for Fooses Flyer, she is no stranger to stakes company. In this race, she broke on top from the outside starting gate in a 10-horse field and led at every call of the 400 yards.
Jockey Jose Figueroa had Fooses Flyer out in front by a 1/2-length going into the stretch, and she exploded late to hold off a challenge from Mighty Tony T and made it to the line first by a nose. Trained by Benito Curiel, the filly made her trip in :20.044, registering a 97 speed index.
It marked the third overall win for the sopho- more filly, with all three victories coming this season after going 0-8 during her two-year-old campaign. Malon Cowgill home-bred Fooses Flyer, banking a $10,400 payday for this victory that improved her overall earnings to $23,113.
Cowgill bred Fooses Flyer out of winner Fly Thru Time. The mare has produced 100% money earners from 10 starters. Fooses Flyer becomes her second stakes winner.
Mighty Tony T (Dominyun-L Bar D Mighty Fine) and Taylor Smith were second for owner Luis Torres-Arenas and trainer Freddy Ibarra. DF Storm Tales (Wagon Tales-Storm’s Promise TB) was third under Nakia Ramirez for owner Mertello Baird and trainer Kyndra McKinney.
Approval Given (Kiddy Up-Just Checking), MC Una Aguila (One Dashing Eagle-DLT Runaway), Jess Candy Lips (Jess Lips-Candies Coconut), Just Watch Him (Foose-Watch Her Walk), GC Lucky Cartel Dude (Carters Cartel-Adasha Lucky Lippy), One Flyin Foose (Foose-One Famous Strawfly), and Tionesta (Hawkinson-Looks Like Texas) completed the order of finish.

S
Favored at 3-5, Hot Little Kiddy broke in third in the 350-yard Whataway To Go. She motored up to grab the win by a neck at the wire in :17.540, post- ing a 96 speed index.
It was only the third lifetime victory for Hot Little Kiddy, but she was coming off a second in the Flight 109 Handicap and a third in the Mildred N. Vessels Memorial Handicap-G1.
“She’s always been very talented,” said Glenn, “but we’ve struggled with keeping her weight on. In the last year, she’s really blossomed.”
David Martin, the ranch manager at Allred’s Rolling A Ranch in Atascadero, California, bred Hot Little Kiddy out of unraced Girls Choice, an Allred homebred. Girls Choice has produced six starters,
all winners, including Grade 1 winner Kiddy Up Cowgirl. Allred bred and raced the second dam, Girl Secrets, who won the 1998 Golden State Derby-G1, La Primera Del Ano Derby-G2, and California Sires’ Cup Derby.
Felix Gonzalez trains second-place Chocolate Divinity (Apollitical Blood-Nellie Delaney), ridden by Guillermo Suarez, and third-place Galloping Goddess (One Sweet Jess-Ingrate Queen), ridden by Jose Nicasio. Wilson Ruiz owns Chocolate Divinity, a winner of four races. Lupe Ayon bred and owns Galloping Goddess, also a four-race winner.
Completing the field were One Hot Habit (Walk Thru Fire-Jess Another Habit), Suite Expectations (Apollitical Jess-Just A Fairytale), All Prettied Up (Favorite Cartel-Pretty Jet High) and Fayvorite Chick (Favorite Cartel-Chicks Tell).
ix days after owner Dr. Ed Allred, trainer James
Glenn Jr., and jockey Oscar Andrade Jr. teamed
up to win the PQHRA Breeders’ Futurity-G2 with Monopolist, they won again at Los Alamitos. This time they did it with Hot Little Kiddy in the $15,000 Whataway To Go Handicap at Los Alamitos on Oct. 9.
