Jesus “Nuchi” Jimenez Sanchez Classic
BP MARIAH CARTEL
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
With nine 2-year-old runners bred in the United States, all of them maidens, the 300-yard distance classic was held with a total purse of $249,500 pesos (approx. $12,481 US).
After capturing second place in the recent Alfredo Castro Rea Classic, the chestnut filly BP Mariah Cartel was the ideal candidate to win this classic, this time teaming up with her stable mate, JM Volcom Regard. The luck of these horses was con- trasting: while the filly BP Mariah Cartel had an explosive start and moved next to the inside rail, the colt stumbled as it started and finished in last place.
BP Mariah Cartel was far superior in this group, winning the classic without effort and by more than 2-lengths over the second place, Corona Lips. This was an achievement the rider Alejandro Gómez Díaz contributed, and which was reflected in a time of :15.07 (SI
95). She broke her maiden winning the Jesús “Nuchi” Jiménez Sánchez Classic.
The filly is by Corona Cartel and out of BP Mariahs JP (by Mr Jess Perry) and was bred in the United States by Bill Price. She belongs to the Cuadra Santa Elena and was saddled by Liderme René Gómez Díaz. She was pur- chased for $22,000 at the 2019 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
The purse was $124,750 pesos (approx. $6,240 US).
José Mauricio Dorantes
and Adriana Gómez Barnola

Second place was for the filly Corona Lips (Jess Lips-A Corona Episode), with her
jockey Mario Alberto López Marmolejo. She is owned by Rancho La Soledad de Álvarez and was saddled by Antonio De La Rosa López.
Thinkin High Returns (High Rate Of Return-She Thinks) won third place, with Martin Utrera in the lead. The filly is owned by Cuadra Los Arrallanes and was saddled by trainer Luis Eduardo Gómez Flores.
The other partici- pants were: Candylicious (One Sweet Jess-Eye
This Candy); AH Goodtime Orgoodby (Tempting Dash-Jessie Del Rey); Windy
