Héctor Roldán Espinosa Classic
SEA MIGHTY
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
Only five participants three years and older of Mexican breeding were registered
for the classic in honor of the horseman and
Quarter Horse breeder, Don Héctor Roldán Espinosa, with a purse of $202,500 pesos ($10,129 US approx.) and was run over a dis- tance of 330 yards, on Dec. 6, 2020.
In the group, the Lafishingonabugsmoon, winner of multiple classics, and who in 2019 came in second place in the Héctor Roldán Espinosa Classic itself, attracted a lot of atten- tion. This time, teaming up with his stablemate LA Rapid Dove.
After the presentation, each one took the corresponding place in the gates.
When the race was dispatched, it began to define what would happen. Sea Mighty (#4) and Kiss Cartel (#1) set the pace, one through the center of the track and the other near the inside rail.
Lafishingonabugsmoom (#1A), used all her power and experience to catch up with them, but was in third place, giving first place to Sea Mighty and second to Kiss Cartel, who were separated at the finish line by a head difference.
The time of the fast runner was :16.52 (SI 95), being the merit of her riding for jockey Alejandro Gómez Díaz.
Sea Mighty (Sea Horse Corona-Mighty Zoom, by Azoom), three years old, is bred by Salomé Gallegos, who consigned her to the 2018 Select Yearling Auction,
where she was purchased for
$190,000 pesos as she passed
through the ring. The filly
was acquired by Cuadra A.
B., in the name of which it is
currently running.
After winning her maiden
on May 5, 2019, over 250
yards, Sea Mighty remained
active by participating in the
different futurities reserved
for Mexican runners sold at
auction. She came in fourth
place in the Garañones
Futurity, the same position
she occupied in the Select Auction Futurity Consolation. She was also a finalist in the Mexican Breeders Futurity. During the 2020
season, due to the suspension of activities because of the COVID-19 pandemic, she only competed on March 8, in a 110-yard sprint, which she won for her fifth victory. Thus, the Héctor Roldán Espinosa Classic is her sixth win in 11 starts, with two third places.
Ricardo Bastida Cherris
is in charge of the on-site training, and is represented by trainer Gregorio Alberto Razo Parra, for official purposes.
Kiss Cartel (Danny Cartel-Holland Kiss) took second place, directed by José Ángel Ambrosio Medina. She is owned by the Diaz de Leon Stables and was saddled by Saul Perez Robredo. She is the winner of the 2019 César Pedrero Anaya Classic.
Lafishingonabugsmoon and regular jockey Yair
Daniel Baez Soto, finished in third place. By Nofishinonafullmoon and out of A Special Ladybug, Lafishingonabugsmoon is owned
