Miss Night Bar became an ROM producing machine when she entered the broodmare band.
Cat’s Bell Boy was the fifth ROM runner out of Belle Of Midnight with an AA rating. He is by Catechu, who is by Joe Reed P-3 and out of Diamond Oakes by A D Reed by Peter McCue.
The purchase of Moon Deck was the
next big event in the evolution of the Carter breeding program. He was purchased from J. B Ferguson for $9,000. If J. B. Ferguson sounds familiar, it is because he was the owner of Top Deck and the breeder of Go Man Go. Moon Deck is by Top Deck and his dam was a Cajun- Bred mare named Moonlight Night. She
was a famous runner and was one of several Cajun-Bred mares that found her way into
the Ferguson broodmare band. She is by Peace Pipe, a Thoroughbred Remount Stallion and she was out of Mae by The Dun Horse. Mae is out of La Bergeron by Doc Horn. Peace Pipe and Doc Horn were Army Remount Stallions.
Carter then moved his racehorse breeding program to Clovis, California, to make his stallions more accessible to the breeders. He used Miss Night Bar, the first Barred foal out of Belle Of Midnight, and Rica Bar as runners to show what his stallions and breeding program had produced. Rica Bar is by Barred and out of Caprica by Nassak. Caprica is out of Puzzle by Pankey’s Lucky and the only Nassak filly they could find at the Corralitos Ranch.
Belle Of Midnight’s first foal sired by Barred was Miss Night Bar, the dam of Jet Deck.
James V. A. Carter purchased Barred, the dam sire of Jet Deck, from Melville Haskell in 1946.
Barred and Carter at his family home at Cow Creek, Jordan Valley, Oregon after winning at Bay Meadows. Melville Haskell
