 Remington Park Juvenile
FACING THE FIRE
by Michael Compton
Facing The Fire experienced a tough trip on April 4, when finishing 4th in a trial heat and qualifying for the $100,000 Remington
Park Juvenile Stakes. In the main event on April 18, the gelding improved and took a step forward after facing the fire in his previous outing and graduated to the ranks of stakes winners with a determined victory over 8 rivals.
Ridden by Jimmy Brooks, Facing The Fire broke sharply and received every call in the 330-yard dash. He battled bravely with a host
of pursuers, first shrug-
ging off race favorite DF Fabulous Maiden. Nonsense On Corona and A Valiant Choice picked up the chase, dueling with Facing The Fire the rest of the way. At the finish, Facing The Fire turned back all challengers, prevailing by a head in a
PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity-G1
determined effort. The bay gelding, sent off at 22-1 despite the trouble he encountered in his previous try, covered the distance in :16.973, earning an 85 speed index.
It was the first win from three lifetime starts for Facing The Fire who finished second, beaten just a head as the race favorite in his March 15 career debut at Remington Park. The
Oklahoma homebred for Reliance Ranches LLC. Mike Robbins conditions the bay filly who captured her trial heat by a 1/2-length.

B Cause Im A Hero (Valiant Hero-Jess B Mighty), High Value Of Return (High Rate Of Return-Kips Little Clique) and Kingdom Cartel (Coronado Cartel-A Tempting Tea) completed the order of finish. BV Austin was scratched.
This Wire Is Hot (CRM Livewire-Princess Friona) finished second under jockey Andrew Samaniego for owners Dan and Kaye Jones and trainer Matt Whitekiller. The gelding ran third in his two prior starts.
Ray Enlow bred and trains third-place Mammy Jammer (CRM Livewire-Dashin DD). Ricky Ramirez rode the filly for owner Roy Kent Perkins. Mammy Jammer won her trial after running second in a maiden race.

Trainer Dee Keener is closing in on legend- ary Paint trainer Lewis Wartchow’s record in several Paint stakes, including the $103,200 PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity-G1 at Remington Park. Keener saddled WF Turnpike Candy to win that race on April 25. It was Keener’s fifth win in the event, behind only the late Wartchow, who won it six times.
Keener had three in the PSBA Futurity, including odds-on favorite and fastest quali- fier WF Turnpike Candy.
James Flores rode WF
Turnpike Candy for Keener.
When the gate opened, WF
Turnpike Candy flew to the
lead. He battled with several
early in the 350-yard event
and scored by a 1/2-length
in :17.581, posting an 88
speed index.
Wartchow, who died in 2003, is a member of the Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame at Remington.
“Lew won a lot of stuff,” said Keener. “I hope we can catch him in this race. It would be such an honor. He was a nice man.”
Keener trains WF Turnpike Candy for Painted Faith Racing. The gelding won
his March 6 trial for the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 and finished third in that final behind winner Captain Capi, also trained by Keener.
Keener bred WF Turnpike Candy in part- nership with Steve Wright. WF Turnpike Candy is by
Painted Turnpike, a 3-time World Champion who contin- ues to race in 2020 and add
to his all-time leading Paint bankroll of $463,905.
