Spicy Chile cooked up a victory in her stakes debut, winning the $31,900 Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity by 3/4-length at Century Mile on Aug. 7.
Buckey Stockwell trains Spicy Chile, who made an alert break from the 5-post then moved inward before righting her course and scor- ing the win with relative ease. The filly navigated a muddy track and benefited from a 15 mph tailwind.
Blandford Stewart was aboard
for the futurity-winning trip, which took :16.051—surpassing her effort in the trials. The filly remains unde- feated from her first two starts.
Bob McCutcheon home-bred the two-year-old filly, who won her July
24 trial in her maiden out, covering the 300 yards in :16.332 to tally the third-quickest qualifying time. The $14,355 prize from the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity finals improves her total lifetime earnings to $16,727.
McCutcheon also owns Miss Invictus Eh, the dam of Spicy Chile. The lightly raced 2012 mare has two offspring, with Spicy Chile being the first starter.
Ulnvme To (First Timber- Ulnvme), the biggest longshot in the field at 60-1 odds, is owned by Riordan Oulton and trained by Allen Goodsell. Jockey O. Amador Hernandez did the riding. Jess
Be First (First Timber-Ima Jess A
Streaker) finished third by a neck for owners Ralph Wiber and Dwaine Ferguson. The Wesley Oulton trainee had Jose Rocha in the irons.
The remaining order of finish was He Flys Bye (Special Fly Bye-Bet On Snow) in fourth, followed by Flyin Feelin (Special Fly Bye-Feelin The Fever) and Northforkhigh (Streakinisanattitude- Highnest). Fastest qualifier and post time favorite Jagnestimber (First Timber-Gilded Gold) stumbled leaving the gate, but recovered enough to place seventh and was followed by Melody Moonshine (Six Packa Moonshine- Betsey Bea) and Bigtime Knockout (Teller Im Bigtime-Royal Knockout). Still Moonshine scratched.
