FLIGHT CLUB
by Danny Camp
Flight Club scored his first stakes victory in the $37,024 John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile
Challenge on Aug. 22.
Flight Club took flight from the
1-post on the lead under jokey Ricardo Moreno. The colt spread his wings and never looked back. Halfway down the track Flight Club was already 2-lengths in front, and he crossed the line with a 2 1/2-length margin.
He completed the 350 yards in :18.438 to earn an 80 speed index. The colt brought home the $18,512 winner’s share of the purse for owner Charles Stojan and trainer William Leech, boosting his total lifetime earnings to $19,287. His race
record stands at one win from two races. He ran second in his maiden outing earlier this month.
Steve Burns DVM bred Flight Club out of winner Separate Flight, a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winners Rock You and Little Talks. The mare has produced two win- ners from four starters, including stakes placed Favorite Flight. Flight Club is her first stakes winner. Flight Club’s second dam is Golden State Futurity-G1, PCQHRA Breeders Futurity-G1 and Los Alamitos Million Juvenile Invitational-RG3 winner Babe On The Fly.
Halos Sign (Wagon Tales- Hawks Halo) outran Flight Club
in their previous meeting, but today was second best for owner Donalda Cochrane. The Allen Goodsell trainee had J. Botello aboard. This marks the fillly’s second start. She won her maiden earlier this month.
Cerveza Corona (Favorite Cartel- Corona Mas Fina) finished in third under D. Benitez for owner Charles Stojan and trainer William Leech. This is the colt’s first start.
Bright Foo Fighter (Gone To The Mountain-DJ Bright Sweetheart) and Fast Red Flyer (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Fast Red Rose) completed the order of finish. BDB Mach Man was scratched.
