Four Corners Futurity
TEMPTING BARBIE
by John Moorehouse
Going into the most recent Heritage Place September Yearling Sale, Javier Alvarez, Jr. had a budget of about $30,000 he was
willing to spend on any one horse. Alvarez figured that Tempting Barbie
would be out of his price range, considering her pedigree. Turns out, the yearling filly became available for $31,000.
He couldn’t resist. Roughly eight months later, that investment is paying off. Tempting Barbie won the $172,349 Four Corners Futurity on May 20 at SunRay Park. The $81,004 first- place share of the purse gives the two-year-old filly a total bankroll of $84,304.
“I saw her when she was in the ring and she looked nice. She has a good conformation,” said Alvarez, who currently runs his horse racing endeavors under Vista del Sol, Inc. Alvarez was also drawn to Tempting Barbie’s female pedigree, where the third dam was First Prize Dash.
