did all the heavy lifting. They bred him, it was their idea.”
Now we know the path that Blazin Jetolena followed in his life as a barrel horse and sire of barrel horses.
THE LIGHTNING BAR FACTOR
When we look at the pedigree of Blazin Jetolena, we see that he has a breeding pattern of 4x4 to Lightning Bar. His
ties to Lightning Bar give an interesting perspective on two famous stallions from the barrel racing segment of our industry.
Lightning Bar was bred by Art Pollard, who bought his dam Della P from a man named W. D. “Dink” Parker, an Arizona rancher and horseman who liked to race his horses. As the story goes, Parker didn’t like the owner of Three Bars and he refused to breed his mares to him. But I guess he was curious about what would come from the cross, so he sold Della P to Pollard on the condition that he breed her to Three Bars. The results were Bardella and Lightning Bar.
The race record of Lightning Bar
shows he was proving to be a pretty good racehorse when he was injured and retired to stand at stud. His breeding career was looking promising when he died of Colitis X. He was nine years old, and he sired
just 148 foals with 77 earning a racing ROM. His runners included Pana Bar, the 1958 Co-Champion Two-Year-Old Colt, and Light Bar, who was the 1960 AQHA Champion Three-Year-Old Colt. Pana Bar and War Chic were co-champions in 1958.
Despite his limited number of foals, Lightning Bar has become an important contributor to our horses today. We see that in the highly successful career of Doc Bar and also in the halter industry with Impressive, who is out of Glamour Bars by Lightning Bar. Then we take
a look at barrel racing, and we find
some key horses that carry the blood of Lightning Bar. They include Sun Frost, who is sired by Doc’s Jack Frost, who has
a breeding pattern of 3x3 to Lightning Bar, and his full sister Bardella. Then
we add Frenchmans Guy, who is sired
by Sun Frost and out of Frenchmans
Lady by Laughing Boy by Lightning Bar, giving him a breeding pattern of 4x3 to Lightning Bar. I found the blood affinity of Lightning Bar between Blazin Jetolena, Sun Frost and Frenchmans Guy interesting in how they have become premier sires in the barrel industry.
Sun Frost Frenchmans Guy
On The Money Red. KG Blazin Nine Oh has earned $132,652, and she is out of Do It For Beau by Beaus Scoop of Sun, who is out of Scoop Starlette by Cut Michia by Scooper Chick, the grandson of War Bam, the sire of War Chic.
Jets Letter Ta Abby on this list has won $117,505 and brings us back to the Dash For Cash broodmare sire line as she is out of Real Famous Abby by Dash Ta Fame. JR Naughty Jet on this list earned $116,862 and is the out of Dash On Sky by On The Dash by Dash For Cash. Jet Fuel Only, winner of $112,862, is out of KR Famous Pearls; Blazin Boss, winner of $110,002, is out of Famous Moonlight; and One First Class Lady, winner of $108,070, is out
of GL Famous First Lady, returning us to the Dash Ta Fame branch of the Dash For Cash broodmare sire line as their mothers are all Dash Ta Fame mares.
Folsom Prisoner has earned $98,330 and gives us an interesting breeding pattern. His dam is Honor This Nonstop by Mr Honor Bound by Jet Of Honor. This gives Folsom Prisoner a breeding pattern of 3x3 to Jet Of Honor. SBW Copy Cat is the winner of $79,524. He is out of SX Dr Peacharita by Dr Nick Bar by Flit Bar by Sugar Bars. This gives this horse a breeding pattern of 5x4 to Sugar Bars.
The last two horses on our list are Blazin Ta Fame, winner of $77,203, and he is out of Princess Dasher by Dash
Ta Fame. Blazing With My Dude, who will finish our look at the foals of Blazin
Jetolena, has earned $75,855 with her dam Dasher Dude by Texas High Dasher by On A High by Dash For Cash.
Blazin Jetolena is becoming a successful broodmare sire as well. His maternal grandget have won $823,948. His leading money earners include: Tres Movidas, who is out of Sheza Blazin Move, is the winner of $301,331; Famous Lil Jet, who is out
of Blazin Black Beauty, is the winner of $218,796; and Teasin Dat Guy, who is out of Teasin Jetolena, is the winner of $201,988. The dams of these three horses are out of Dash For Cash line mares.
I thought Andrea summed it up best about the path that took Blazin Jetolena to where he is today, “We never really set out to make him what he is today. Yes, we promoted him, but then one day you look up and, wow, that is impressive - he is a $4 million sire! He is everything we ever hoped and thought he would be.”
She concluded, “Now we can’t take any credit for what Blazin Jetolena is.
He keeps producing. He is unbelievable. From Sheza Blazin Move going to the NFR the year after we bought him. Then there were the nice horses out there like Vickie Carter with Blazin Ta Fame going to the NFR. Then Jess Heart N Soul, Jets Letter To Abby and Promise Me A Jet from the first foal crop that we kept back hit the Futurities. It was good timing. We can take no credit for what he has done.
I told Sue when we bought him that we hoped to improve what they did. They
