Delight Interest delighted all his connections by winning the $143,955 West Texas Derby-G3 at Sunland Park. As they say, he’s
just now coming to himself. Since Josue Ponce has taken over the conditioning, Delight Interest has won his last three out of four. The latest win in the West Texas Derby, he banked the first place check worth $67,659.
The gelding stepped away from the number three post with Manuel Gutierrez in the saddle making sure his mount kept his focus. They quickly went to the lead and with a steady effort were a head in front at the halfway point and a neck in front at the wire. They stopped the timer in :19.303 to earn a 106 speed index. Including the first place check, the geldeding has a lifetime bankroll worth $149,793 for owner Triple Five. His race record stands at four wins out of ten career starts.
