Flight 109 Handicap

All Ways snagged the first stakes win of his career in the $20,000 Flight 109 Handicap at Los Alamitos on Feb. 4. Juan Aleman saddled two horses, finishing first and second. Odds-on favorite Cattail Cove was expected to win, but his 12-1 stablemate All Ways beat him.
All Ways broke outwardly from the 6-post, straightening quickly for jockey Adrian Loza, and they began racing with Cattail Cove. The two Aleman trainees had to catch a pair of horses inside of them, and the four surged to the wire together. All Ways defeated Cattail Cove by a head, stopping the timer in :17.718 for 350 yards. He earned a 91 speed index and the $11,000 winner’s share of the purse.
All Ways ran third in the 2022 Dillingham Handicap and his earnings are now $45,325. Owned by the Boersma family’s Boardshorts Stables LLC, they won two races on the Los Alamitos card that night. All Ways was a $26,000 purchase at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale.
Edward C. Allred bred All Ways in California from his homebred winner Million Ways. The mare has produced 11 winners from 16 starters, with four stakes winners including Million Maid, Pile Of Money and Counting The Ways and two stakes-placed runners.
Runner-up Cattail Cove (Favorite Cartel-Katie Katella), placed second under jockey Jesus Ayala for owner Link Newcomb. A 6-year-old gelding, Cattail Cove won the 2022 Independence Day Handicap-G3 and Azure Three Handicap.
Rox Win (Seperate Interest-Mindys Favorite), bred, owned, and trained by Mike Casselman, finished third. Cruz Mendez piloted the 5-year-old gelding.
Completing the field were Up The Ladder (Kiddy Up-Oh La Princess), Nevada Charles (Fly Thru The Fire-Nymph), and Five Bar Runner (Five Bar Cartel-Check Her Running). El Bobito Bet Cartel was scratched.
Mr Jess Perry Stakes-RG3
HEZAA FAST BOY

Making the first start of his 6-year-old campaign, Rogelio Marquez Jr.’s Hezaa Fast Boy won the $25,000 Mr Jess Perry Stakes for state-
bred runners at Louisiana Downs on Feb. 11. Hezaa Fast Boy went 350 yards in :17.494 while
racing over a muddy and sealed track and aided
by a reported 14-mph tail wind, and his margin
of victory was a head over Dianetoseparatefromu. Rolando Cabrera rode the Heza Fast Dash gelding for trainer Jesus Marquez.
Hezaa Fast Boy was bred by Simmons Racing, and he was purchased by Rogelio Marquez Jr.
for $50,000 at the 2018 LQHBA Yearling Sale. The bay gelding was making his first start since Dec. 17 when he ran sixth, 2 1/2-lengths behind winner RDD Empire Builder in the 400-yard $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Classic-RG2 at Evangeline Downs.
Hezaa Fast Boy is out of Brenda Beautiful,
a daughter of Feature Mr Jess and the sport’s Champion 2-Year-Old Filly in 2008. Raced exclusively in Louisiana, with seven of 18 starts, the $15,000 winner’s share of the purse from his fourth career stakes score pushed Hezaa Fast Boy’s bankroll to $177,900.
Dianetoseparatefromu (Inseperable-Coronas Concierge) earned $5,000 for his owner, Angel Juarez Corona. Eleazar Hernandez rode the 4-year-old gelding for trainer Leonel Hernandez. Cwfasttrack (Mr Ease Cartel-BT Sheza Baby Spoon) ran third, 1-length behind Hezaa Fast Boy. Benito Baca rode the 4-year-old mare for owner Ocie Lee Charles Jr. and trainer Gregory Williams. Followed by TF Jess Me (One Sweet Jess-Miss Mallard Too), One Fast Perry (Fast Prize Jordan-De Bell Perry), JJ Heza Fast Dash Jr (Heza Fast Dash-Forever Real), Denalia Sweet Jess (One Sweet Jess-Denali Chick), and Go Rhonda Go (Zoomin For Bux-Ms Maggies First).
