World Championships honor the best in racing, and Signs Of Livewire epitomized that in so many ways.
“He was probably one of the smartest horses I’ve ever been around,” said owner Jeff Adams. “You showed him one time and that was it. He won his schooling races and then won every race he was ever in.”
Sadley, Signs Of Livewire’s life was cut short due to laminitis, though Adams and Dr. Mike Majors of Oakridge Equine Hospital did everything they could to save him.
Signs Of Livewire is by leading Paint sire CRM Livewire and out of the Quarter Horse mare Signs Of PYC, a daughter of PYC Paint Your Wagon and a full sister to Champion The Fiscal Cliff. Adams knew that many of CRM Livewire’s best runners have been out of PYC Paint Your Wagon mares.
Trained by Dee Keener, Signs Of Livewire in his first start won his trial wire-to-wire for the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 at Remington Park by a neck. He returned
to win the final by 1/2-length – again, wire-to-wire.
The winning margins then ballooned. In his trial for the 350-yard Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1, Signs Of Livewire scored wire-to-wire by 3-lengths. In the final, his wire-to-wire 2-length winning margin caused Remington announcer Dale Day to call it “an absolute runaway.”
Next came the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 at Fair Meadows. Signs Of Livewire aced both his trial and the final by 2-lengths – again leading from start to finish. The colt’s total bankroll of $217,811 put him atop the year’s list of leading Paint earners.
Losing Signs Of Livewire devastated Adams, who said he is “so thankful” for
the colt to be remembered with the World Championship title. And because Signs Of Livewire was going to stud before the laminitis flared up again, Adams is able to breed some mares to him and hopes the colt’s legacy will live on.
