Gary Vaughan is justifiably proud of Queen For Cash, the 2022 Appaloosa Horse of the Year and Champion 4 & Older Mare.
The 2018 mare has performed admirably for the owner/breeder, beating Paints and Appaloosas so consistently that Remington Park has voted her Appaloosa of the Meet for three consecutive years.
“She’s a one-of-a-kind mare,” Vaughan said. “There’s not another one out there like her.”
Vaughan bought Sure Nuff Fast, the
second dam of Queen For Cash and a Bronze Medallion winner, as a broodmare prospect. He did so well with Sure Nuff Fast that she earned her Bronze Medallion Three-Year-Old Filly and was inducted into the Appaloosa Hall of Fame.
Ivory Queen produced Queen For Cash when bred to the Quarter Horse Hes Relentless.
Despite COVID-19 somewhat curtailing
her opportunities in her two year old year, she won the Victoria Ennis Stakes at Remington and finished third in the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 and was awarded her first Remington Appaloosa of the Meet title.
“The next year she won the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Derby-G1 as the only Appaloosa in the field,” Vaughan said.
Queen For Cash also finished third in the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes-G1. For her third consecutive season, Queen For Cash won a Grade 1 race, this time in the Mister Lewie Memorial Stakes at Remington Park.
But her most impressive race came in the Sequoyah Stakes at Will Rogers Downs, her first attempt at 870 yards.
“She destroyed the field,” Vaughan said. “She outran them by 9-lengths. She blew them away.”
Queen For Cash returned to Will Rogers
to add the Green Country Paint & Appaloosa Handicap. She was so impressive at Will Rogers Downs that she was not only voted Appaloosa of the Meet, but overall Horse of the Meet, beating out Quarter Horses and Paints.
Queen For Cash is getting ready for her five-year-old old season, seeking a fourth Remington Park title and possibly more year- end awards in 2023.
