but still has managed to win. He has worked with her at the gate, and the filly has been improving.
“The 440 yards really helped,” Aldavaz said. “And now as a 3 year old she’s doing better. She also qualified with the boys, and she ran pretty tough with the boys, too.”
As a 2 year old, Ezee Money ran in trials for all three of the major Ruidoso futurities. She won her trials for the Ruidoso Futurity-G1 and Rainbow Futurity-G1, but did not qualify. Then she finished third in her trial for the All American Futurity-G1.
Unplaced in three starts at Zia Park and Sunland Park over the winter, Ezee Monee again has thrived at Ruidoso.
Aldavaz tried her against males in the Ruidoso Derby-G1, and she won her trial to qualify as the fourth fastest. In the final, she broke a step slowly and made up ground to finish a solid fourth.
With Ruidoso now offering accompanying Oaks races to the Rainbow Derby-G1 and All American Derby-G1, Aldavaz put Ezee Monee in against her own sex, where she has excelled.
Ezee Monee won her trial for the Rainbow Oaks-G1 by three-quarters of a length, qualifying the sixth fastest. She returned to capture the final by a half-length.
Next came the All American Oaks trials. Ezee Monee finished second by a neck to Cool Ya Jets. With her All American Oaks victory, Ezee Monee increased her earnings to $598,043.
Aldavaz said that Ezee Monee came out of the All American Oaks very well.
“We might go to Los Alamitos—I’m not sure yet,” Aldavaz said a few days after the race.
