Uncle Eds Idea extended his winning streak to four straight races, prevailing in the $44,500 King William Stakes-G3 by 3/4-length on Sept. 2 at
Retama Park.
Breaking from the 2 hole, Uncle Eds Idea led by a
1/2-length at the first call and never looked back. The gelding widened the gap to a length and held on to win with relative ease, finishing the 350-yard race in :17.771 for a 98 speed index. Tammy Johnson trains Uncle Eds Idea, who had Jose Vega in the irons.
This was the first graded stakes victory for Uncle Eds Idea, whose other exploits at that level include
a third in both the 2021 Remington Park Bank of America Distance Championship Challenge-G2 and the 2020 Bob Moore Memorial-G2. He now has two stakes wins, including the 2021 Black Gold 440 Championship Futurity.
Robert and Stacey Martin home-bred Uncle Eds Idea, a six-year-old gelding who has been to the winner’s circle 11 times in 28 starts. The $26,700 first-place share of the purse pushed his lifetime earnings to $302,859. Uncle Eds Idea is out of Mystical Eye. Her brood includes Valentino Pete, 3rd in the Tower of the Americas Stakes earlier on the Retama Park card.
LS Jacks Back (Corona Cartel-PJ Chick in Black) placed second for LS Racing LLC. The John Stinebaugh trainee had Raul Ramirez Jr. in the irons. JB Shiner Bok (Boknaai-Streakin N Dancin) hit the board in third for owner/trainer/breeder John Boegner. Francisco Giles had the riding assignment.
The remaining order of finish was Caliente Operator (Corona Caliente-A Dashing Operator), Jess a Dashin Angela (Dash Master Jess-Mi Angela), Dos Corona Flash (Lethal Corona-Marthas First Corona), Blue Storm Comin (Jess Louisiana Blue-W Project), and D Cosmic Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-Special Love Shack). DM Moonpie and His Time To Deal were scratched.
CS FIERRO

CS Fierro may have been overlooked by the wagering public in the $100,000 TQHA Sires’ Cup Derby at Retama Park on Aug. 19, but the 3-year-old gelded
son of Volcom stood tallest at the finish, upsetting nine rivals in the 400-yard test at odds of 30-1.
Ridden by Javier Hernandez, C S Fierro raced in third position early. He drew alongside early leaders Gone Grand and race favorite Dash For The Flash in the lane and surged to the front in the final strides to score by a head over Gone Grand at the finish. In winning
the first stakes race of his career, C S Fierro stopped the timer in a fast :20.092, earning a 98 speed index.
A homebred for Iselda Alvarez, C S Fierro improved his lifetime record to 8-2-2-0, and the $40,000 winner’s share of the purse lifted his bankroll to $51,937.
Trained by Adan Guzman, C S Fierro was bred in Texas and is produced from the Dean Miracle mare Ill Getcha Good. His dam was a three-time winner during her racing career, and she was Grade 1 stakes-placed, having finished third in the 2005 Lou Wooten Handicap-G1 at Sunland Park.
Runner-up Gone Grand (FDD Going Grand- Trashy Tres), with jockey Eliazar Vera aboard, just missed for owner/trainer Jose Camacho.
Third-place finisher Dash For The Flash (Tempting Dash-Its Braggin Time), broke in after the start, briefly saw the lead under jockey Ali Rivera, and held the show spot for owner Jose Chavez and trainer Jose Sanchez III.
Famous Corona Winner (Lethal Corona-One Famous Winner), CR Barak (Dash Master Jess-Mi Angela), Chilli Red (Lethal Corona-Makeala),
A Game Of Corona (Dealagame-Corona Blast), Famous Treis (One Famous Eagle-Peppermint Seis), One Fine V (One Famous Eagle-Sera Fina), and Zee Runaway Train (Freighttrain B-Zenergetic) completed the order of finish.
DADDY CALIENTE

After a bobbled start, Mi Cielo Ranch’s Daddy Caliente quickly drew away to grab the victory
in the $43,000 Silver Eagle Stakes at Retama Park
on Sept. 1. With Claudio Aguilar at the reins, the gelding stopped the timer at :16.574 with a 2 1/2-length winning advantage, and earning a 111 speed index.
This victory marks Daddy Caliente’s second stakes victory, the first being the $59,500 TQHA Sale Sophomore Stakes in his last out in July. This vicrtory improves his record to five firsts, two seconds, and two thirds from 12 outs.
The $25,800 winner’s share increases his career earnings to $231,350. The three-year-old gelding is trained by Brian Stroud.
Bred in Texas by Jose R. Espinosa, Daddy Caliente is out of the Valiant Hero mare Valiant Flame. The mare has produced two winners from two starters, including a winning full brother to Daddy Caliente. The gray gelding was consigned by Rio Rico Ranch at the 2021 TQHA Yearling Sale, where Mi Cielo Ranch purchased him for $17,000.
Under jockey Jose Herbert, Apollitical Magic (Apollitical Jess-Million Dollar Kiss) chased his way to second best earning his owner Dianna Karen Estrada the $8,600 runner up’s share of the purse. The sorrel gelding is trained by Juan Diaz Jr. and was coming off of a fourth place finish in the Retama Park Derby. He was also a finalist in the Firecracker Derby-G3 earlier this year.
Deagree (Capo De Capi-Eye Agree) secured a third place finish by a 1/2-length with Noe Villatoro on the riding assignment. Deagree is trained by Adan Guzman and owned by JJ Racing. The gelding finished second in the TQHA Sale Sophomore Stakes in July.
Special Train Lelo (Freighttrain B-Special Dashing Girl), Eagle Powers (This Is An Eagle-DF Girly Girl), and Pepsi Grey (Four Six Jess-Coco Cartel) completed the order of finish.
