WALK IT BACK

Walk It Back scored his first stakes win and broke his maiden all in one when he grabbed the $75,000 All American Juvenile Overflow Stakes at Ruidoso Downs on Sept. 4.
Under jockey Sergio Becerra Jr., Walk It Back shot out of the No. 8 gate and dueled with Cant Pass This One at the beginning of the stretch then secured the lead at the third call. The brown gelding finished first by a neck and stopped the timer at :22.219. Walk It Back is trained by Eric Valenzuela and owned by Heysol Howlet, Jose Saul Medina, and Victor Moreno.
Bred in Californa by Steve D. Burns DVM, Walk It Back is out of graded stakes winner Enjoy The Walk, who won the 2012 version of the California Breeders’ Matron Stakes-G3. The mare has produced 11 winners from 15 starters, including multiple graded stakes winner Chocolatito. A full sibling to Walk It Back, Chocolatito’s stakes win resume includes the 2020 versions of the Vessels Maturity-G1 and the Robert L. Boniface LA Invitational Championship-G1.
Debra Gotovac’s Cant Pass This One (Corona Cartel-Jess Walking Thru) and Tyler and Naia Graham’s homebred Top Cowboy (Flying Cowboy 123-Paradice City) dead-heated for second. Emilio Tapia rode Cant Pass This One for trainer Bradley Bolen, and Ricky Ramirez rode Top Cowboy for trainer Clinton Crawford. This was the first stakes performance for both of the two-year-old geldings.
Completing the field were Believe In Perry (Mr Jess Perry-Believe Me Irene), I Am Candy (Jess Good Candy-Candy Cartels Cat), Moon Spot (KVN Corona-Sunspot Babie), Mitey Relentless (Hes Relentless-Mitey Moon), and Hesa Gamer (FDD Dynasty-Trashy Tres). Grafity and Relentless Eagle were both scratched.
APOLLITICAL PENCE

Dunn Ranch’s Apollitical Pence was a prompt 1-2 favorite in a 250-yard $75,000 Ruidoso Downs Overnight Stakes on Sept. 2. Making his first start
since mid-February, Apollitical Pence defeated Empty Promise by a half of a length in :12.875. Francisco Calderon rode the 7-year-old son of Apollitical Jess for trainer Monty Arrossa.
Apollitical Pence ended his 6-year-old
campaign with a third-place finish to World Champion Empressu, in the $750,000 Champion
of Champions-G1 at Los Alamitos on Dec. 10.
The gelding has won 20 of 38 starts and has earned $1,820,614, and his seven graded stakes wins include the 2020 and 2021 Champion of Champions.
Apollitical Pence was bred in Oklahoma by Dunn Ranch and Womack Cavender Farms, and he was coming off of a wire-to-wire victory in the $144,950 Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship-G1 on Feb. 19. The gelding is out of Send City, an unraced homebred. His second dam, Send Me The Candy, won her first three starts, including the Remington Park Futurity-G1.
Empty Promise (Seperate Interest-Babe On The Fly) banked the $15,000 runner-up share of the purse for her owner Vista Del Sol Inc. Esgar Ramirez rode the 4-year-old filly for trainer Marco A. Flores.
Adina Baker’s Just A Kool Boy (Favorite Cartel- Just Eagle) ran third, 3/4-length behind Apollitical Pence. Jimmy Dean Brooks rode the homebred 4-year-old stallion for trainer Eddie D. Willis.
Sheza Freighttrain T (Freighttrain B-Cloning Around), Bosanova Blood (Apollitical Blood- Bosanova Baby), DF Fabulous Jackie (One Fabulous Eagle-Eyema Candy Tree), Regalo Coronados (Coronado Cartel-Dianes Easter Gift), Candy Going Grand (FDD Going Grand-Jess Send Me Candy), and Blue Riband (Winners Version-Blues Lil Corona) followed. Phlogiston was scratched.
BIG CRUSH BB

Big Crush BB, a 4-year-old son of Big Daddy Cartel racing for Javier M. Chavez, won the $75,000 overnight stakes for New Mexico-breds at
Ruidoso Downs on Sept. 2.
Prepped by Jose Ignacio DeHerrera and sent
to post as the 4-5 favorite, Big Crush BB covered 400 yards in :19.434, and his margin of victory was 2-lengths from Fly On Down. Jacobo Enrique- Navarro rode the gray colt.
Big Crush BB’s win streak includes victories in a division of the $100,000 Jimmy Drake Stakes-RG3
at SunRay Park on April 28 and the $50,000 Zia Stakes-RG2 at Ruidoso Downs on July 22. All told, the colt has won seven of 19 races, and the $45,000 winner’s share of the purse from his fourth career stakes score increased his earnings to $247,460, of which $162,000 has been banked from six starts this season.
Big Crush BB was extending his win streak to four races. The stallion was bred by Ralph Vincent and Beverly Bourguet, and he is out of unraced Eagles First Down. Big Crush BB traces back to his third dam Folsanon, a winning Fol’s Native TB mare and a finalist in the 1989 Shebester-G2 and Oklahoma-G3 futurities at Blue Ribbon Downs.
