CASH FLOOW
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
Only thirteen horses ran in the qualifying races for this classic, which took place on July 23, 2023. The colt Mr Corona Perry
was the fastest qualifier in the 350 yards, with 17.521 seconds.
With the withdrawal of Docs Dashing Gipsy from the Cuadra Jojola R, the final on Aug. 13 was contested between nine of the ten finalists with a purse of $573,220 pesos (approx. $33,058 U.S.).
When the race was dispatched, The Eagle Five (#3) drifted to the left and bumped the favorite Mr Corona Perry (#1) apparently without major consequences since the group continued comfortably on the track. After leading the
group through the center of the track, the filly Too Late For Goodby fell along with her rider a few yards from reaching the finish line. Miguel Ángel Rodríguez was unharmed, but the filly was euthanized on the spot.
While such events happen in fractions of a second, the bay filly Cash Floow, who started in the #10 position, gave a good finish and
dominated by 3/4-lengths ahead of One More Episode, who finished in second place. Mario Alberto López Marmolejo was aboard the filly, setting a time of :17.57 for a speed index of 80, a significant improvement over the :17.85 in the qualifying race where she placed third.
Cash Floow belongs to the Cuadra Santa Elena, who had an extraordinary afternoon also winning the Bank of America Mexico Challenge Championship with Hiclass And Grand. Cash Floow was represented in the winners’ circle by her owner Alfredo Castro Rea and trainer Joaquín Ramón Peláez Cortes, who received the trophies from Adriana Gómez Barnola, Manager of the AMCCCCM, and José Mauricio Dorantes, Manager of Equestrian Operation of the Las Américas Racetrack.
Cash Floow was bred in the United States by McColee Land & Livestock LLC, and she
is a daughter of leading sire Corona Cartel and out of Famous Little Reba by One Famous Eagle. She comes from the 2022 Heritage Place Yearling Sale where she was acquired by Joaquín Ramón Peláez for Cuadra Santa Elena. The asking price for her in the
ring was $47,000.
This is the first win for Cash Floow, who
previously participated in the AQHA Mexico Juvenile Challenge in which she finished in sixth place. Her record now stands at 1-1-1 in five attempts and she increases her account by $286,610 pesos (approx. $16,529 U.S.) for a total of $341,223 pesos in her fledgling career.
The chestnut filly One More Episode (One Valiant Hero–One Corona Episode) placed second directed by Martín Utrera Morales. She is the property of the Cuadra San Lázaro de Arará and was saddled by trainer Saúl Pérez Robredo.
In third place was the filly Jess Luna (Fast Prize Cartel–Jess Hawk) led by Yair Daniel
