FLIGHT CLUB
by John Moorehouse
Flight Club turned in a performance worth discussing, winning the $15,630 Cup Classic Maturity on Sept. 9 at Century Downs to notch his
fourth consecutive victory.
All four of the wins on the current streak have
been in stakes company. He captured the Century Mile Bonus Challenge and Century Mile Sprint
in June, then went to Grande Prairie and captured the Evergreen Park Championship Challenge – a race he won for a second straight year. Flight Club now has 10 stakes wins, representing the bulk of
his 12 total victories in 18 starts. Aside from an appearance in the 2020 AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2 in Albuquerque, Flight Club has raced exclusively in western Canada.
Flight Club broke on top from the No. 6 hole and never looked back. The gelding led by a full length at the first call, maintained a separation of a 1/2-length going into the stretch, then gained some extra breathing room to win by daylight.
William Leech trains Flight Club, who finished the 440-yard trip in :21.970 for a 102 speed index. J.B. Botello had the riding assignment.
Charles Stojan, who owns Flight Club, collected an $8,237 payday that improved the gelding’s total to $141,587. Steve Burns DVM bred Flight Club and home-bred the gelding’s dam Seperate Flight.
Jessaprimadonna (One Sweet Jess-Favorite Primadonna) had a three-race win streak halted, finishing second for owner Cindy Fehr. The Misael Moreno trainee had D.L. Benitez in the irons. Timbers Express (First Timber-Daddys Express Girl) hit the board in third for owner Shirley Laczo and trainer Brant Laczo. Daniel Garcia was aboard.
The remaining order of finish was She Wears The Pantz (Seperate Interest-Skinny Jeans), Firelicious (Walk Thru Fire-Zoomilicious), and Scarletts Cartel (Carters Cartel-Scarlett Jewel).
THE PRIZE FERARRI
by Kristen Moore
By a nose, The Prize Ferarri took home the money in the $18,200 White Pine Stakes
on Aug. 19. Ridden by jockey Jose Figueroa, the
five-year-old gelding closed in on the win coming into the stretch, finishing the 400 yards in a time of :20.022 to earn a speed index of 102.
The Prize Ferarri earned a winner’s share of $10,010 for owners RTM Stables, Robin Dunn, Kevin Dunn, and Bryon Goody. The gelding is trained by Mark Hanson and has secured 16 wins during his racing career, including winning the Iron Horse Maturity at Weber Downs on May 27. out of the multiple stakes winner producing
mare Ferarri Fast Prize. The Prize Ferarri is a 1/2-brother to multiple graded stakes winning gelding Ferrari James. Ferarri Fast Prize has produced 23 winners from 32 starters with three stakes winners. In addition to The Prize Ferarri, Ferarri Fast Prize is also the dam of Ferarri James, winner of the Keokuk Stakes-G3 three times, Two Rivers Stakes-G3, Altoona Derby and Iowa Double Gold Derby.
Under jockey Uriel Dominguez, Cowboyhatbygucci (Apollitical Blood-Ms Fast First Prize) took the early lead but was bested coming across the wire. The gelding is owned by Lucero Uriel Dominguez and trained by Calli VanTassell Dominguez, He broke his maiden by winning the Rising C Equine Futurity at Energy Downs 307 Horse Racing in June 2021.
Blitz Chick (Stoli-Jeanifer Chick) and jockey Jose Lopez veered out midway but held third throught the race. The colt is owned and trained by Ricardo Mariles-Santos.
