by Michael Cusortelli
FDD Swingin Dynasty, a 5-year-old daughter
of Champion FDD Dynasty racing for Darian Burt, won the 440-yard Bank of America Pocatello
Championship Challenge on July 29.
Ridden by Oscar Cervantes for trainer Alvaro
Torres, FDD Swingin Dynasty made her quarter- mile trip in :21.287, and her margin of victory was
a 1/2-length from Sables Dashin. The brown mare earned the $25,892 winner’s share of a $56,287 purse.
Raced in five states, FDD Swingin Dynasty has won seven of 17 starts, and the winner’s share of the purse from her fourth career stakes score bumped her bankroll to $100,793.
FDD Swingin Dynasty was bred in Utah by Jerry Windham of College Station, Texas, a longtime breeder who was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2006. The mare
is out of Jess A Swingin, a homebred winning Shazoom mare who ran second in the 2012 TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity-RG2 at Retama Park. FDD Swingin Dynasty traces back to her third dam, 1983 Champion 2-year-old filly Indigo Illusion.
Runner-up Sables Dashin (FDD Dynasty-Painted Sable) earned $11,257 for owners Robin D. Dunn, Larry Chapple, and RTM Stables LLC. Guillermo Suarez rode the 5-year-old gelding for trainer Mark Hanson. The Prize Ferarri (The Louisiana Cartel- Ferarri Fast Prize) ran third under Francisco Rubio for owners RTM Stables, Robin Dunn, Kevin Dunn, and Bryon Goody, and trainer Mark Hanson.

to-wier and covered 400 yards in :20.123. Her margin of victory was a head over Im Perky. Mark Hanson prepped the homebred daughter of Five Bar Cartel.
Campaigned exclusively at Pocatello Downs, Katie Perry has won five of 11 races, and the $9,556 winner’s share of the purse from her second lifetime stakes score pushed her earnings to $36,579. The filly’s resume includes a neck victory as the fastest qualifier in last year’s 350- yard $41,000 Idaho Cup Futurity, and she was a finalist in the Bitterroot Futurity-RG3.
Katie Perry was bred in Idaho, and she was coming off of a third-place finish, 1/2-length behind fastest qualifier Best Not To Judge, in her July 15 trial.
The filly is out of Sexy Perry, a winning daughter of Champion Mr Jess Perry. She traces back to her third dam, Sexy Socialite, a winning daughter of two-time World Champion Dash For Cash, who ran second in the 1986 Ed Burke Memorial Futurity-G2.
Runner-up Im Perky (Seperate Interest-Perky) banked $4,774. Luis F. Gonzalez rode the gray filly for owner and trainer Sergio Reyes. Empowered To Prosper (Kiss My Hocks-Shakemupperry) ran third. Jose Figueroa rode the gelding for owners RTM Stables LLC, Robin Dunn, Larry Chapple, and Bryon Goody.

Mingus Mountain Stakes
VALENTIN JQM
by John Moorehouse
The overwhelming favorite at 1-2 odds at post time, Valentin JQM lived up to that billing, rolling to victory by daylight in the $18,500 Mingus Mountain Stakes on July 30 at Arizona Downs.
Trained by Amy Nelson, Valentin JQM left little doubt in this one. He broke well from the No. 3
gate and built a 1/2-length lead by the first call. The separation doubled to a full length going into the stretch, then the gelding continued to widen the gap, sporting a 1 1/4-length margin at the wire.
Kevin Carbajal was aboard for the 350-yard trip, completed in :17.416 for a 108 speed index. Valentin JQM banked a $10,175 payday for his connections, improving the gelding’s total bankroll to $114,586.
Owned by Juan Cesar Torres-Casas, Valentin JQM got to the winner’s circle for the fourth time in six starts this season and the ninth time in 19 career races. The five-year-old gelding now has tallied three stakes victories in 2022. The Mark Villa Memorial Stakes in April at Rillito Park and the Wayne Brasher Memorial at this track on July 4, which Valentin JQM won for the second straight year, were the others.
Pedro Barbizan Santiago Leite bred Valentin JQM out of winner Corona Perfection, who finished third in the 2002 Blushing Bug Handicap. She has produced 17 winners from 20 starters.
Fastrak Required (Walk Thru Fire-No Tools Required) captured runner-up honors for owner Ramon Esquivez and trainer Eloy Navarro. Ernie Aispuro was in the irons.
La Panama West (Panama Wes-JM The Dance) hit the board in third for Roberto Baeza. The Candelario Villamar trainee had Albert Medrano aboard.
Iron Budderlfy (First Down Dash-Budderfly Effect), Shez Our Jess (Hez Our Secret-Jess Marcy), Wreckin Ball (One Dashing Eagle-Home Wreckers Fire), and Shez Packin Sixes (Five Bar Cartel-Sixes Sola) completed the order of finish.
