SIZZLING WAGON
by Danny Camp
Sizzling Wagon soared to his first victory in the $38,838 John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge on July 31.
Trained by Buckey Stockwell, the filly broke on top under Andrew Wright and was never headed. Sizzling Wagon proved very much the best as
she crossed the wire with a 1/2-length margin of victory. They completed the 350 yards in :18.458, while posting an 82 speed index.
Making only three starts in his young career, the $19,024 winner’s share of the purse boosted Sizzling Wagon’s total bankroll to $22,228.
Willis bred Sizzling Wagon out of Canada Hi-Point Aged Mare Northfork Sizzle, who
ran third in the Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3
and Evergreen Park Distaff Challenge. She is a half-sister to AQHRA Aged Series Stakes winner Northforkzoom. Sizzling Wagon is her first starter. Sizzling Wagon’s second dam is Canada Hi-Point Three-Year-Old Filly RJ Bitterroor Babe, who was also a runner-up in the Rocky Mountain Turf Club B Cup Stakes. She has produced 100% winners from eight starters.
Third fastest qualifier Noble Rearing (Favorite Cartel-Sweet TR) took a hard bump at the break. The colt showed a gritty effort to bank second place money. Connections include owner Jerry Stojan and trainer William H Leech. J Botello was handling the reins. Northfork Boss (JD Wagon Boss- Northfork Babe) was third under D. Benitez. The gelding is owned by Glen Wills, Buckey Stockwell and Delton Gehring. Northfork Boss ran third in the Alberta Stallion Stakes in July.
Professor Gee (Fly Thru The Fire-Bemused), Springeleer (Duponte-First Sassy Timber) and Heza Majestic Hero (Majestic Cartel-Weeds In My Roses) completed the order of finish. Jamez Bond was scratched.

TOP SHELF 109
by Danny Camp
Top Shelf 109 was at the top of his game for the running of the $35,047 Adequan Evergreen Park Derby on Aug. 7. The gelding lined up in the 2-post and broke with the front runners. Jockey Hernandez wasted no time and went to work, riding the gelding to a head in front mid stretch and a 1/2-length in front at the wire.
They stopped the clock in :20.624 to earn an 88 speed index. The gelded son of Special Fly Bye also earned the first place check worth $17,523, which ups his lifetime earnings to $34,740 for owner Robert McCutcheon. Top Shelf 109 now has a race record of three wins from 13 career starts.
In addition to this stakes event, Top Shelf 109 was also a finalist in last year’s Canada Cup Futurity-RG3 and Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3.
Buckey and Beverly Stockwell bred Top Shelf 109 out of winner See Me Do It Too, who is a half- sister to Canada Hi-Point Three-Year-Old Colt JD Wagon Boss, winner of the Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge. Top Shelf 109 is her first foal. Top Shelf 109’s third dam is World Champion and 3-time Champion See Me Do It.
Valiant Stevie B (Stevie B First Cash-Valiant Sister) showed a gritty performance to bank second place money for owner WR Ranches Ltd. The Buckey Stockwell trainee had jockey D. Benitez in the saddle.
Interes Fino (Separate Interest-Corona Mas Fina) gave a late rush to secure third place under
J. Botello for owner Charles Stojan and trainer Willian Leech. The gelding was second in last year’s John Deere Grand Prairie Juvenile Challenge and finished fourth in the Canada Cup Futurity-G3.
Destello De Luna (Lethal N First-A Mere Toast), Firelicious (Walk Thru Fire-Zoomilicious) and Wave Burner (Wave Carver-First Prize Sass) completed the order of finish.

UP AND ATEM
by Tracy Gantz
Dr. Ed Allred has won the $100,000 Spencer L. Childers California Breeders’ Championship Handicap-RG1 three out of the last four years. He
took it with World Champion He Looks Hot in 2019, with Circle City in 2021, and on July 31 with Up And Atem. The race is always meaningful to Allred because the late Spencer Childers was a good friend.
Scott Willoughby, who trains Up And Atem for Allred, explained that the 5-year-old gelding had an illness that kept him away from the races from May 2020 to January 2022. Up And Atem hadn’t won since 2019, though he ran third in this year’s Vessels Maturity-G1.
Up And Atem turned in a terrific performance in the 400-yard Spencer Childers. Breaking well for jockey Armando Cervantes, he came on strongly at the end to post a neck victory in :19.655.
Allred bred Up And Atem out of his homebred graded stakes-winning mare Up For It. The mare has produced eight winners from 11 starters, including stakes winners She Goes Up and Set For It and stakes-placed Up For Speed.
Allred also bred and owns second-place Monopolist (Favorite Cartel-Nymph), trained by James Glenn Jr. and ridden by Oscar Peinado. Monopolist won the 2020 PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity-G2.
Cattail Cove (Favorite Cartel-Katie Katella), ridden by Ramon Sanchez, trained by Juan Aleman, and owned by Link Newcomb, finished third. The 5-year-old gelding was coming off a win in the Independence Day Handicap-G3.
Completing the field were You Can Run (Favorite Cartel-You Can Fly), Bail Czech (Corona Czech-Letty Bail Regis Out), Circle City (Favorite Cartel-Moonlight Corona), Other World (Foose- Celestrial Being TB), BF Outfoosed (Foose-BF Outrageous), and Mister Tornado (Sports Cartel- Spanish Sola Mark).
