                 CA Brds.’ Matron Stakes-RG3
KISS THRU FIRE
by Tracy Gantz
Champion Kiss Thru Fire was understandably
the shortest-priced favorite of the eight stakes conducted on the two California Breeders’ Champions
Nights at Los Alamitos. She performed like a Champion, going off at 1-5 and much the best in the California Breeders’ Matron Stakes-RG3 on July 31.
Winner of the same race last year, Kiss Thru Fire made it look easy. She broke sharply for jockey Jesus Ayala, who rode her confidently to the wire, never having to ask her. She won by a half-length, which could have been more had Ayala pushed her. Time for the 400 yards was :19.774.
Juan Aleman trains Kiss Thru Fire for owner Gentry Farms. Kiss Thru Fire was voted Champion Aged Mare of 2021, and she has now won seven stakes, including two editions of the Charger Bar Handicap-G1.
Gentry Farms bred Kiss Thru Fire in Kentucky out of homebred Fredaville. The Champion
Aged Mare of 2012 and a full sister to Champion Fredricksburg, Fredaville won seven stakes. The mare has produced five winners from six starters, including Mexico stakes winner Beer Wagon and graded stakes-placed Kiss My Heineken.
La Estrella Corona (Corona Czech-Shadow Lake TB), owned by EG High Desert Farms, trained by Santos Perez, and ridden by Irving Lara, finished second. The 4-year-old filly was coming off a third in the Vessels Maturity-G1.
Cruz Mendez piloted Rite On Time (Favorite Cartel-A Regal Classic) to third for trainer Jose Flores and owner Haras Portofino. Rite On Time won last year’s California Breeders’ Debutante Stakes.
More Than Looks (Favorite Cartel-Look Her Over), Up For You (Favorite Cartel-Up For It), Looks On Fleek (Favorite Cartel-Dutch Secret), and Walking Alone (Seperate Interest-Sex On Fire) completed the order of finish.

SPEED DYNASTY
by Tracy Gantz
Two horses brought the top price of $170,000 at the 2021 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale. One
of them, Speed Dynasty, nabbed a berth to the Oct. 22 Bank of America Challenge Championship by capturing the $43,384 Bank of America Los Alamitos Championship Challenge-G2 at Los Alamitos on Aug. 6.
With two scratches, only three lined up for the 440-yard Championship Challenge. Tres Coronas on the rail started beautifully while CM Blue By You forced Speed Dynasty wide. That left Speed Dynasty and jockey Armando Cervantes with a lot to do, but they never gave up and Speed Dynasty won by 3/4-length in :21.914, posting a 91 speed index. The winner’s share of the purse increased his bankroll to $209,617.
Arden Sue Floyd and Jeremy Trujillo bought Speed Dynasty, winner of the 2020 La Fiesta Futurity, from the Lazy E Ranch, Agent, consignor for J & SM Inc., and race him in the name of Taos River Ranch LLC. Monty Arrossa took over the colt’s training, and the Championship Challenge was Speed Dynasty’s second start for the new ownership.
Speed LLC bred Speed Dynasty in Utah out of the Mr Jess Perry stakes-winning mare Jess Sass Me. An AQHA Dam Of Distinction, Jess Sass Me has produced 25 winners from 39 starters, including Champions Jess Walking Thru & Sass Me Blue, 5 other stakes winners, and 4 stakes-placed runners.
Arrossa also trains second-place Tres Coronas (Corona Cartel-Baja Jazz). Jesus Ayala rode the 4-year- old gelding for owner Juan Medina. Tres Coronas was coming off an allowance victory at Remington Park.
Randy Dickerson’s homebred CM Blue By You (Duponte-Cool Blue Corona) ran third under jockey Ruben Lozano for trainer Luke Lindsey. The 3-year- old gelding is also an allowance winner. E Gmail and My Game Plan were scratched.

JET WINGS ONE
by Tracy Gantz
Jet Wings One kept her 2022 record perfect with a fourth consecutive victory when she won the $24,684 Q-Racing Video Los Alamitos Distaff Challenge-G3
at Los Alamitos on Aug. 7. That gives her a berth to
the Q-Racing Video Distaff Championship-G1 at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Oct. 22.
It really wasn’t a contest. Jet Wings One
came out of the gate on top for jockey Armando Cervantes and led at every call, at one point having a 1 1/4-length lead. Her margin was 3/4-length when hitting the wire, completing the 400 yards
in :19.876 and earning an 89 speed index. The $12,835 winner’s share of the purse raised her bankroll to $152,263.
Trained by Monty Arrossa, Jet Wings One
this year has won an allowance race, the Denim
N Diamonds Stakes, and the Miss Princess Handicap-G2. In 2021, she captured the Adequan Los Alamitos Derby Challenge, and she has placed in three other stakes.
Connie Moon owns the 4-year-old filly, who was bred in Idaho by Connie’s late husband, Dan Moon. Jet Wings One is out of Dan’s homebred Wayward Wings, winner of the 2011 Hawthorne Futurity. The mare has produced two winners in three starters, including stakes-placed Unique Ways.
Cruz Mendez piloted Famous Shining Star (One Famous Eagle-Thewayouwantmetoo) to second for owner Johnny Trotter and trainer Jose Flores. Famous Shining Star captured the Virginia Hyland Stakes earlier this year.
Gentry Farms’ homebred In My Heart (Apollitical Jess-Heartbeat) ran third under jockey Jesus Ayala for trainer Juan Aleman. The 4-year-old filly was coming off a win in the Check Her Twice Handicap.
Jess Fortunate (Mr Jess Perry-Fire And Delight) finished fourth, followed by Eyez Of Cartel (Five Bar Cartel-Angel Eyez).
