Jodys Glory Classic
ZOOM IS ALL I DO
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
With only eight participants, the 22nd edition of this stakes event was run in honor of the runner and stallion Jodys Glory (1975), a son of Jody Chick and out of the mare Lassie Be Good (by Glory Be Good). In 56 races in the United States, he forged a 16-15-8 record and earnings of $120,776. As a stallion, he was standing at the Rancho Santa María (today Cuadra Hacienda Vieja) in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Jalisco, owned by Don Félix Bañuelos, and leaving a genetic legacy that still endures in Mexico.
It is an open classic for two year olds over a distance of 350 yards with a purse of $337,600 pesos ($16,367 U.S. approx.). Three of the runners debuted in this classic, including
the eventual winner Zoom Is All I Do who participated with teammate Sheza Flyn Eagle, also a rookie and both owned by the Cuadra Cartas Blancas.
The bay filly Zoom Is All I Do dominated from the beginning of the race and moved very close to the inside rail, maintaining her
strength until reaching the finish in an impressive :16.98 (SI 97) under the command of rider Luis Antonio Aguilar Morales. First Corona DK was her closest pursuer, who was 1 1/4-lengths behind her.
With such a successful
debut, the daughter of
Corona Cartel and out
of Apolitical Zoom by
Apollitical Jess, opened her earnings account with $168,800 pesos ($8,183 U.S. approx.). However, the filly had significant bleeding due to her effort and was transferred to receive medical assistance and could not return to the winner’s circle. At the time of this writing, she is recovering with the expectation of returning to competition according to information provided by Dr. Ivan Alcantara Estrada.
Zoom Is All I Do was bred by McColee Land and Livestock LLC, and was purchased by Samuel Valdivia at the Heritage Place
Yearling Sale in Oklahoma, who paid $30,000 for her, later becoming the property of the Cuadra Cartas Blancas, where she is trained by José Eduardo Baltazar Carmona.
First Corona DK (Danny Cartel-One Cool, Separatist) finished second under Silvestre Mar. She was bred by Cuadra La Presita for
owner Cuadra H-R and trainer Gerardo Rafael Galán Pérez.
Sheza Flyn Eagle (One Famous Eagle- Coronas Fast Prize, Corona Cartel) was third under Arturo Vega M. for owner Cuadra Cartas Blancas and trainer José Eduardo Baltazar Carmona.
KVN Diva (KVN Corona-Favored), Eleet Fleet (Jess Good Candy-Clareet), Jess Call Me Angel (One Sweet Jess-Im Game Lets Play), BR Chencho (Klimene Feature SA-Stage Gulch) and DK One (Danny Cartel-One Heart) completed the order of finish.
