Mystic Lake Northlands Juvenile
NUNOTHAT

Nunothat got his first career stakes victory in the $20,000 Mystic Lake Northlands Juvenile at Canterbury Park on Aug. 10.
Away from the starting gate in good order on the lead, Nunothat was never headed under jockey Jorge Torres and immediately distanced himself from his rivals. He lengthened his advantage to 1-length in the lane and stretched the margin to 1 1/4-lengths at the finish, defeating Relentless Snow in :17.929. The final clocking earned a speed index of 90.
The brown gelding broke his maiden at Canterbury in July following a pair of placings in races at Remington Park to begin his career. The $12,000 winner’s share of the Mystic Lake Northlands Juvenile purse increased his bankroll to $29,859, and the win improved his overall record to 6-2-1-1.
Owned by Tom Maher and Paul Luedemann, Nunothat is trained by Jason Olmstead who swept the top three placings with his charges as Relentless Snow and jockey Armando Alvidrez finished second and Southard Rocket, with Edwin Escobedo aboard, finished third in a dead heat with Elegant Dynastia and jockey Bonifacio Quiroz.
Maher also co-owns the second-place finisher, Relentless Snow (Hes Relentless-A Snowy Cartel), with Richard Tobin. The brown gelding is still in search of his first victory and was bred in Oklahoma by Flag Ranch LLC. Jo Rice owns and bred third- place finisher, Southard Rocket, who broke his maiden two starts back at Canterbury. Elegant Dynastia (FDD Dynasty-Ja Jess Elegance) is owned by Blind Hog Racing Partners and is trained by Edward Hardy. Flag Ranch LLC bred the filly in Oklahoma. Hot Splash Dash (One Sweet Jess-One Hot Party), Arion Too (Dominyun-Valiant Red Vixen), and BV Im Already Taken (BV Travelin Soldier-BV Love Is A Rose) completed the order of finish. Blu Bye U and Vos Candy Prince were scratched.

ON A NEW NOTE

The 9-5 favorite in a full field of 10, Brian L. Gunder’s On A New Note responded with a neck victory in the $84,020 Horseshoe Indianapolis Classic at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Aug. 18.
On A New Note covered 400 yards in :20.065 while posting a 90 speed index and earning her first career stakes win. Juan Marquez rode the 4 year old filly for trainer Randy Smith. The $46,213 winner’s share increased her bankroll to $133,731.
Campaigned in four states, including New Mexico, the mare has won three of 16 starts. She placed second in her most recent race in the Bradford Stakes at Horseshoe Indianapolis on July 13.
On A New Note was purchased by Brian L. Gunder for $22,000 at the 2019 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Tom Bradbury bred her in Colorado out of a 2001 mare Corona Cerveza. She has produced 10 winners out of 14 starters with earnings of $594,355.
One Night Too Long (Capo De Capi-Devoted Love) ran second under jockey German Rodriguez. She earned $16,804 for her owner Jeff Wiley and for trainer Randy Smith. She also placed second in her last race at the Horseshoe Indianapolis QHRAI Derby on June 28.
Relentless Chick (Hes Relentless-Meaningful Memories) finished third under jockey Erik Esqueda, 3/4-length behind On A New Note. She earned $8,402 for her owner PLJ Farms LLC and for trainer Karin Yike.
Jess Bringin It On (Jess Zoomin-Billie Bob), Jess Gimme A Kiss (Kiss My Hocks-Perrys Dreamgirl), Delreys Wagon Train (Freighttrain B-Stolia Del Rey), Jess Over Yonder (Apollitical Jess-Wyld Blue Yonder), Fire The Cartel (Five Bar Cartel-Prairie Fire), Jess Good Reason SA (Good Reason SA-Jess Like Vegas), and DQ’d from 7th to last Apollitical Tools (Apollitical Jess-No Tools Required) completed the official order of finish.
Horseshoe Indianapolis Stakes
HH C J SHAKE

HH C J Shake secured the fourth stakes victory of his career, taking the $33,250 Horseshoe Indianapolis Stakes on Aug. 10.
Breaking from the 2-post, HH C J Shake dueled with post-time favorite Stone Lake for the majority of the 350-yard trip. Second at the first call, HH C J Shake then moved into the lead by a 1/2-length entering the stretch. The gelding gained some ground during the final strides to hit the wire first by 3/4-length. Trained by Paul Martin, HH C J Shake finished the race in :17.581, posting a 101 speed index. Jose Ruiz was aboard.
A five-year-old gelding owned by Larry Carter, John Myers, and Rusty Hawkins, HH CJ Shake has raced exclusively at this Indiana track, amassing nine wins in 23 starts and $338,878 in prize money with the $19,250 payday for this latest triumph.
Prior stakes successes include the 2019 versions of the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity and Miss Roxie Little Futurity, as well as the 2020 running of the Harley Greene Derby. He also holds a pair of runner-up finishes in stakes company.
Carter and Myers bred HH C J Shake out of Shakem Jake, a 2007 mare who has produced two winners out of three starters with earnings of $151,321.
Escondido Beach sired all three horses that hit the board and Anthony Cunningham trains the second and third-place finishers. Cunningham also owns second placed Stone Lake (Escondido Beach-Silly Chix), who also placed second in the Horseshoe Indianapolis Stakes back in July. Luz Martinez did the riding. Pamela Brickley Hann owns Beach Benny (Escondido Beach-Streaking Stitches), who finished third by 1-length with Saul Lopez in the irons. Love To Kiss (Kiss My Hocks-Lovemelikethat), Mitey Persuasive (Jazz Be First-Mitey Victoria), and Beach Front (Escondido Beach-Run N Ruby) completed the order of finish.
