QROOI Distance Series #2
HAD TO BE IVORY
by Danny Camp
Champion Had To Be Ivory scores a victory in the $16,005 QROOI Distance Series #2 at Ajax Downs on Aug. 11.
He stood in the gates the longest, as he was in the number one hole. When the gates opened, he didn’t get the first call but within a couple of jumps there was no doubt. With Cory Spataro aboard, he quickly put 2-lengths on the field. At the wire he was 2 1/2-lengths in front.
Trained by Bryn Robertson, Had To Be Ivory completed the 400 yards in :19.443 to earn a 111 speed index, just ticks off the :19:400 track record.
The gelding brought home the $7,114 winner’s share of the purse for owners Carol & Jaime Robertson, to push his total lifetime earnings to $198,370.
This marks his eighth stakes victory, also wining the Alex Picov Memorial Futurity, Picov Derby, Picov Maturity (twice), Ajax Juvenile Challenge, Ajax Downs Bonus Derby Challenge, and the Ontario Bred Maturity, where he set a New Track Record and a 108 speed index.
Carol and Jaime Robertson bred Had To Be Ivory out of Had To Be Fandango, winner of the 2011 Maple Leaf Derby. She has produced 100% winners from three starters, including stakes placed Had To Be Relentless and Five Bar Fandango. Had To Be Ivory is her first stakes winner.
Countrys Comin Bac (Country Chicks Man-Bac To Center) finished in second under Cassandra Jeschke for owner Ralph Pearson and trainer Don Reid. The gelding won last year’s Ontario Bred Maturity.
Spy For The Senate (Louisiana Senator-Corona Spy) and jockey Ismael Mosqueira finished in third for owner Milena Kwiecien and trainer Jason Pascoe.
Country Boy 123 (Country Chicks Man-Very Dashin 123), Chicksdigmymoneybags (Chicks Regard-Aaneta) and Eazy Street (Mighty B Valiant) completed the order of finish.

O FIRST SWEET HEART
by Danny Camp
OFirst Sweet Heart was the first to cross the finish line in the $35,156 John Deere Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge on July 31.
O First Sweet Heart stepped away from the 6-post on the lead and took control. Ridden by jockey Larris Allen, O First Sweet Heart grabbed
a 1/2-length lead at the midway point. Trained by Wes Oulton, the filly finished a neck in front stop- ping the timer in :18.382, which was good for an 83 speed index and a wire-to-wire performance. O First Sweet Heart collected the $17,578 winner’s share of the purse, which boosted her earnings to $40,066 for owner Jeffrey Rath. She now hold 2 wins from 6 outs, with this marking her first stakes victory.
Wes Oulton bred O First Sweet Heart out of winner Eyesa Perry, a half-sister to stakes placed Inthetwinkleofaneye. She has produced four winners from five starters, including Canadian Champion and top earner Eyesa Timber, who won the Canada Cup Futurity-RG3, Alberta Bred Futurity and was a runner-up in the Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby. O First Sweet Heart is the second stakes winner in the brood.
Interes Fino (Separate Interest-Corona Mas Fina) ran a gritty race to pocket second place money under Ricardo Moreno for owner Charles Stojan and trainer William Leech. The gelding has won one start from four starts.
First Golden Rose (First Timber-Madam Goldilocks) gave a big effort crossing the line in third place under O. Hernandez for owner Isaak Fehr and trainer Michael Moreno. The filly was a finalist in the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity at Century Mile earlier this year.

ROWDYSVISION
by Tracy Gantz
Rowdysvision earned a berth to the Adequan Derby Challenge Championship-G3 by capturing the Aug. 7 Adequan Grande Prairie
Derby Challenge. The colt was bred in Mexico and has done all of his racing in Canada, so the Oct. 23 final at The Downs at Albuquerque could be Rowdysvision’s first start in the U.S.
A 19-1 longshot in the Adequan Grand Prairie Derby Challenge, Rowdysvision broke in third place from the seven-gate under jockey Alfredo Amador.
He battled with odds-on favorite Cerveza Corona throughout the 400 yards. Rowdysvision had a head lead at the first call and a head at the top of the strecths. He just edged out Cerveza Corona to score by a neck in :20.535.
Misael Moreno trains Rowdysvision for owner- breeder Isaak Fehr.
Rowdysvision made his first three starts at Ajax Downs, breaking his maiden in his third start. In that race, the sorrel colt broke well in the 300-yard event and easily won by 1 1/4-lengths for an 88 speed index and his first stakes score.
Rowdysvision made his first start in the trials to the Alex Picov Memorial Futurity. Despite a lackluster finish, he qualified to the finals where he finished in seventh-place in those.
Following his stint at Ajax, he finished second and third in two allowance races at Century Mile.
Fehr bred Rowdysvision out of Vision My Corona. Rowdysvision is the mare’s first winner from two starters.
Tempestuous Judy, Rowdysvision’s fourth dam, was a stakes winner at Evangeline Downs.
Jockey Jose Rocha rode Cerveza Corona (Favorite Cartel-Corona Mas Fina) to a second place finish for owner Charles Stojan and trainer William Leech. Cerveza Corona was coming off of three consecutive victories, including a win in the Century Maiden Express.
Wesley Oulton bred, owns, and trains third- place Eyesa Timber (First Timber-Eyesa Perry). J. Botello rode the gelding, who won the 2020 Canada Cup Futurity-G3 and Alberta Bred Futurity.
Rounding out the field were Flight Club (Foose-Seperate Flight), Bright Foo Fighter (Gone To The Mountain-DJ Bright Sweetheart), Bright Ooh La La (Gone To The Mountain-Bright Apparition) and BDB Mach Man (BDB Iam A Tres Knud-Rapid Connection).
