Adequan PRM Derby Chal.
FDD PRINCESS
by John Moorehouse
It was ladies first in the Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge. FDD Princess won the $41,701 event on Aug. 15, securing her first stakes victory
and a spot on the 2021 Challenge Championships card later this year.
Tom Scheckel owns FDD Princess, who got to the winner’s circle for the second time in seven starts this year and notched her third career victory in 14 outs. She earned a berth in the Adequan Derby Challenge Championship-G3 on Oct. 23 in Albuquerque.
Coming off a victory in an allowance on July 12 in her most recent prior out, FDD Princess went off at 3-1 odds and made a driving finish to win the race. After breaking on top from the No. 7 hole, FDD Princess ran a close second both at the first call and going into the stretch, overtaking Bayou A Cartel to sport a full-length advantage by the time she reached the wire.
Shawna Manriquez trains FDD Princess and Bonifacio Quiroz was aboard for a 400-yard trip that took :19.784 and registered a 96 speed index. The $20,016 winner’s share of the purse improved FDD Princess’ total earnings to $52,028.
Jerry Windham bred FDD Princess and owns her dam, Viborita, a 2-time winning 2009 mare who was also a finalist in the Sam Houston Distaff Challenge.
Bayou A Cartel (Corona Cartel-Louisana Corona) finished a game 2nd for owners Kim Paulsen & Tom Maher. Jason Olmstead is the trainer and Edwin Escobedo was up. Not A Secret (Hez Our Secret-Call As Maybe), the post-time favorite, hit the board in
3rd for Michael Teel. The Charlton Hunt trainee had Agustin Silva in the irons. Followed by Purty Darn Quick (Jess Louisiana Blue-Now Margaret), Shes Tough Enough P (Apollitical Jess-Peppermint Seis), Wieburg (Ivory James-Hollie Jollie), Kiss Me in the Snow (Kiss My Hocks-A Snowy Cartel), & Apollitical Stunner (Apollitical Blood-Panther Prize Me).

FLY DONNA FLY
by John Moorehouse
Fly Donna Fly picked a fine time to break her maiden. The two-year-old filly scored her first career victory and her first stakes win simultane-
ously, taking the 350-yard $50,210 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge on Aug. 15.
Owned by Green D Ranch LLC, the filly brought home a $23,097 payday to improved her total earnings to $28,321. She also qualified for another lucrative race, securing a spot in the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship, to be held Oct. 23 in Albuquerque.
Although this marked her first trip to the winner’s circle, Fly Donna Fly had finished 4th or better in each of her 4 prior starts, including unsuccessful bids to qualify for the Heritage Place Futurity and Oklahoma Futurity. In trials for this race, Fly Donna Fly placed 3rd in her heat and logged the 4th-quickest time.
There was no catching her in the stakes final. Fly Donna Fly broke on top from the 7 gate and led at every call. The filly opened a 1/2-length lead at the 1st call, maintained that advantage going into the stretch, then held off a late bid by Iza Good Guy to hit the finish
line 1st by a nose. Jose Aguilera trains Fly Donna Fly, who completed the race in :17.783 for a 91 speed index. Jonathan Dominguez was aboard. Steve Burns DVM, bred Fly Donna Fly out of 2010 mare Lidonna Madonna.
John Hammes trains the other 2 horses who hit the board. Hammes co-owns Iza Good Guy (Jess Good Candy-Iza Doll Face) with Bradbury Racing. The colt had Armando Alvidrez up. Bradbury Racing also owns Nothin Like You (Favorite Cartel-Whos Kissin Carter), who prevailed in 3rd with Ramiro Garcia up. Following was Deutsch (One Fabulous Eagle-Hollie Jollie), Last Tres Seis (Tres Seis-Last Shall Be First), TS Jess Watch Me Fly (Apollitical Jess-Agent Carter), Candy At Midnight (Jess Good Candy-Shake Em Diva), Curls Ivory Princess (Ivory James-Eye A Spit Curl Girl), Trig (Apollitical Jess-Simply Different), and BHR Light My Spark (First Down Mr Jess-BHR Guys Flash Me).
Cy-Hawk Stakes
CR APPOLLITICAL JOE
by Michael Compton
Multiple stakes winner CR Appollitical Joe made it back-to-back stakes scores at Prairie Meadows with an authoritative victory in the
$25,000 Cy-Hawk Stakes on July 31. Having annexed the Cyclone Derby at the Altoona, Iowa track in his previous outing, CR Appollitical Joe jus- tified his favoritism in the Cy-Hawk, bounding clear late to add to his already impressive resume.
Ridden by Edwin Escobedo, CR Appollitical Joe raced in second position early in the 350-yard dash, chasing second wagering choice Kiss Me Anywhere. He collared that rival in the lane and drew clear late to win by a 1/2-length, stopping the timer in :17.387. Trained by Jason Olmstead, CR Appollitical Joe’s final clocking earned a 103 speed index.
Owned and bred by Richard and Curt Tobin, CR Appollitical Joe improved his record to 11-5- 3-1 and the $12,250 winner’s share of the purse increased his lifetime bankroll to $142,439. Last year he captured the Hawkeye Futurity and finished second in the Jim Bader Stakes.
Bred in Iowa, CR Appollitical Joe is out of graded stakes-placed LW Evening Lajolla, who fin- ished second in the 2008 Future of Iowa Stakes-G3.
While there was no question about the winner, Kiss Me Anywhere (Kiss My Hocks-Paint Me Anywhere) and Iris Royal Jess (Captain Courage-Pure Royal Dash) couldn’t be separated at the wire and finished in a dead heat for second. Jockey Daniel Amaya piloted Kiss Me Anywhere for Summer Hill Farm and trainer Clinton Crawford. Stormy Smith was aboard Iris Royal Jess, winner of the 2020 Cy-Hawk Stakes, for B/B Wessels LLC and trainer Alex Wessels.
CR Hez The Man (Heza Fast Dash-LW Evening Lajolla), Gracies Tuition (Lil Kool Wagon-Majestic Jet Black), and Sweet Twisted Tea (Sweet First Down-Dashing On The Moon) completed the order of finish. Streakin Jesszee was scratched.
