Jodys Glory Classic
APOLLITICAL STING
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
On Aug. 8, this classic was held in honor of Jodys Glory, the stakes winning Quarter Horse of $120,776 in the United
States, who was brought to Mexico to fulfill his duties as a stallion and where he left a deep genetic legacy.
Due to the retirement of El Sendro RCH, there were seven two year olds who partici- pated and competed for a prize of $384,500 pesos ($19,061 US approximately), in which the Cuadras Cartas Blancas and Bronco Rider registered two runners each.
Despite the waterlogged track, the actions were performed correctly. According to the race chart, the first in the game was Apollitical Sting from the extreme position in gate #7, who drifted markedly towards the track rail. Meanwhile, stable mate Island Candy did the opposite, starting his race from position #5 to finish alongside the inner rail, so at first glance he looked like the winner of the race.
However, running down the competition was Apollitical Sting, driven by Alejandro Almazán, allowing him to finish first with
1 3/4-lengths difference over Island Candy, who heeded the instructions
of Yair Daniel Báez Soto. Apollitical Sting’s time was :17.34 seconds in the 350 yards for a speed index of 89. Both horses belong to Cuadra Cartas Blancas and were conditioned by José Eduardo Baltazar Carmona.
Apollitical Sting is the
son of the leading stallion
Apollitical Jess and out of the mare Sting Scorpion Sting by Strawfly Special, and he was bred in the United States by Mike Vaughan. Sold for $48,000 in the 2020 Heritage Place Yearling Sale to Samuel Valdivia, the horse later became the property of Cuadra Cartas Blancas. The aforementioned breeding cross has already produced the Champion Aged Stallion Admiral Sting and the stakes winner Pollitical Scorpion.
In this race, Apollitical Sting won his maiden and added the first classic to his
record, which is 1-1-0
from 3 outs, and added
to his account earnings of $192,250 pesos ($9,530 US approximately).
As noted above, the brown colt Island Candy (PYC Paint Your Wagon–Eye On This Candy) captured second place led by Yair Daniel Baez Soto. He belongs to the Cuadra Cartas Blancas and, like the winner,
was trained José Eduardo Baltazar Carmona. In third place finished BR Favorito Cartel
(Favorite Cartel–Hawk Kue Pie) with his jockey Aaron Adrian Gomez aboard for the Cuadra Bronco Rider, being trained by Ismael Parra Martinez.
The remaining participants included Player X Three (Mr Jess Perry–Mischievous Player), Chamisa Eagle (One Famous Eagle–Sixy Chamisa), Volcom Fox (Volcom–Jessita) & DJA Soars (First Down Dash–Lavish La Jolla).
