In a SPEEDHORSE interview, Torres had this to say about his horse before the finals. “This colt hasn’t had an easy season. He’s already had 12 outs, which is a bunch for a two year old. He’s a nice gentle, honest individual who tries hard.” When asked about the horse’s chance in the finals, he continued, “We’ll all do our best. That includes Royal Quick Dash. Based on trying as hard as we can, I know we’ll finish wherever we deserve.”
Well the hard work paid off for Royal Quick Dash in the 1991 All American Futurity. With Jerry Rodriguez in the saddle, he was out of the gate with the first call as he “sprinted” to the lead. Early on it was Steppin For The Moon and Cowboy
Rodeo right there and as the race progressed it was Leaving Memories, Femmes Frolic and Ed Grimley that were coming on late in the race. But in the end, Royal Quick Dash kept his lead, winning the race by a neck over Ed Grimley in second. The winning time was :21.85. Sixarun Secret was third, followed by Easy Freddie in fourth with Femmes Frolic fifth. The rest of the field saw Holland Ease, Leaving Memories, Steppin For The Moon, Cowboys Rodeo and Easy First Down finishing the race in that order.
Royal Quick Dash earned $1,000,000
for his win. His record for 1991 shows 13 starts with five wins, three seconds and two thirds, earning $1,041,156. He was named the AQHA Champion Two-Year-Old Colt. Royal Quick Dash had a quiet three-year-old campaign, making just five starts with two wins and two seconds to earn $5,824. He had a career record of 18 starts with seven wins, five seconds and two thirds, earning $1,046,980.
The success of Royal Quick Dash in 1991 was just the beginning for his sire and dam. He was the first All American winner sired by First Down Dash, with his runners winning five more All Americans. He was the first stakes winner for his dam Harems Choice, and she produced four more stakes winners. She was the dam of two AQHA Racing Champions, as well.
Her foals earned $2,449,217.00, and she is an AQHA Dam of Distinction.
Royal Quick Dash changed ownership
a number of times and his last owner was Sandra Soto of Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He stood both in the United States and Brazil during his career as a sire. He sired foals that won $20,640,249 with 880 racing ROM and 86 stakes winners. His runners include AB What A Runner, winner of the 2002
All American Futurity. Royal Quick Dash
is the sire of SF Royal Quick Flash, who
is dual registered AQHA/APHA and an APHA World Champion. He is the sire of 32 APHA Champions and six APHA World Champions. The daughters of Royal Quick Dash have produced foals that have earned $29,266,047 with 1035 ROM and 122 stakes winners. The stakes winners include Foose, earner of $1,616,938 and a leading sire of horses that have won over $12 million.
Royal Quick Dash brought his pedigree credentials to the All American and then secured the All American Dream for Doloras Contreas, Ben Torres and Jerry Rodriguez. Then he became a sire that has influenced the industry in both North America and South America. He died in 2018 in South America, but he is still siring foals through modern technology. So, the story of this All American winner may not be over yet.
