  FLIGHT SONG
Flight Song, a 5-year-old daughter of Attila’s Storm, rallied to win the August 1 Lincoln Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred fillies and mares at Ruidoso Downs.
Ridden by Luis Rodriguez, Flight Song
went 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03.79 while defeating Count Them Again by 3/4-length. James Lackey prepped the mare for owners Pierre Amestoy Jr., Leslie Amestoy and Roger K. Beasley.
Flight Song was bred by R.D. Hubbard. The mare is one of 22 black-type stakes winners from 11 starters sired by Attila’s Storm, a Kentucky- bred son of the Storm Cat stallion Forest Wildcat. From 2004-07, Attila’s Storm earned $534,983 from 18 races, and his two stakes wins included the 2007 Toboggan Handicap (G3) at Aqueduct. Attila’s Storm has sired the earners
of more than $13.8 million, including multiple stakes winners Waltzing Attila, Stormin The Jewels and Hush’s Storm. The stallion died on June 23 following colic surgery.
Flight Song is also one of 6 winners from 7 starters produced by Hang Glide, a winning and multiple stakes placed daughter of the Storm Cat
stallion Dome. Hang Glide has foaled 3 other stakes winners, all of whom are full brothers to Flight Song, including 4-time stakes winner Reaper and 3-time stakes winner Thermal.
Flight Song traces back to her third dam, Shywing, a Wing Out mare who won 4 stakes in California from 1985-86. Shywing was a half-sister to 3 stakes winners, including Grade 3 winners Compelling Sound and Creston.
Flight Song was making her first start
since December 22, when she ran sixth in a 5 1/2-furlong, $27,500 allowance race for New Mexico-bred distaffers at Zia Park. All told,
she has won 7 of 19 starts, and the $30,000 winner’s share of the $50,000 Lincoln Stakes purse pushed her earnings to $264,223. Flight Song’s 5 career stakes wins include last year’s 6 1/2-furlong, $100,000 Carlos Salazar Stakes (R) at Albuquerque Downs.
Following a stewards’ inquiry, Count Them Again was disqualified from 2md and placed 3rd for drifting out at the 16th pole and forcing Let It Roll to check. Let It Roll was placed 2nd and was followed officially by Count Them Again,
Lemon Drop Gold, Movin On, Tutta Terlingua, and Questa.
