Onemoreandiamgone’s connections include owners Jody Garcia, Roy Hernandez and Jesse Hernandez, trainer Angel Sanchez and jockey Luis Vivanco
Vivanco said. “The three outbroke us, beat us about a neck out of the gate and pulled away a little bit. Then we beat him on the top end – caught him at about 300 yards and passed him on the top end.”
The three horse was PYC Painted
Streaker, who was ridden by Jose Martinez
and also conditioned by Sanchez for owner Valerie Moya. Winning by a 1/2-length, Onemoreandiamgone V sprinted the 400 yards in :19.493, for a 102 speed index and $145,638.
Onemoreandiamgone V posted the 3rd-fast- est qualifying time with his neck victory in the ninth of 11 Dash For Cash trials on Sept. 13.
“He had a few problems in his first
few starts, but we always thought he was a good horse,” said Sanchez, as translated by his daughter Fatima. “We always trust our team – the jockeys, the workers, the grooms, everyone. So we had faith in the horse, and we knew he had a good chance in the final.”
Valeriano Racing Stables bred the geld- ing, the first stakes winner out of winner Velvette. She has produced 100% winners from five starters. Onemoreandiamgone
V races for the partnership of Jody
Garcia, along with brothers Roy and Jesse Hernandez. Garcia works in the oil fields, where he is an asset manager for Occidental
Permian. The partners purchased Onemoreandiamgone V for $17,000 at the 2019 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. The gelding has compiled a record of 6-4(1)-2- 0, while earning $170,788 racing in Texas and Louisiana.
“Roy and Jesse have been in horse racing their whole lives,” Garcia said. “They grew up around it, always had horses. About 10 years ago, Jesse wanted to buy a racehorse and get back in it. Roy and I are best friends – he’s actually my uncle by marriage – and he talked me into joining them. We started off with claimers and then we bought a baby, and for the last four or five years, we’d buy one baby a year and each one have been able to win.
“He’s had a little bit of trouble,” Garcia added. “What happened in the Firecracker (Futurity trials at Delta Downs) wasn’t any fault of the horse – it was raining and he reared up because of the horse beside him was acting up. In the Texas Sires Cup (trials at Retama Park), he was like the 12th- or 13th- fastest qualifier. So we knew he had a lot of potential. Angel had been telling us that the horse was going to be better as a 3 year old than he was as a 2 year old, and we feel like every out he’s getting better and better. He sure feels pretty good at this moment.”
The partners have Onemoreandiamgone V pointed to the Texas Classic Futurity-G1. The gelding gave them a moment to remem- ber before the win in the Dash For Cash. “That’s just him,” Sanchez said. “We always thought he’d come out good, but he’s still a baby and that just happens at times.
“Thank God I didn’t see it,” Sanchez said. “I’d gone back inside for a just minute during the post parade, and I didn’t know about it until Jody told me. We sure appre- ciate the person who grabbed the horse. It was a God thing: I’d probably have died if I’d seen it happen!”
