of them and we were gone
from there.”

SS CLASSYJESS
by Michael Cusortelli
Edgar Rosales’ SS Classyjess kept her stakes- winning streak going with a victory in the 350-yard $100,000 Nevill Stakes at Lone Star
Park on Sept. 19.
One of only two distaffers in the 10-horse
field and sent to post as the 9-2 third choice, SS Classyjess defeated 3-2 favorite Mr Tereso by a nose in :17.591. Juan Ignacio Garcia rode the 4-year-old gray daughter of the Mr Jess Perry stallion Rock Solid Jess for trainer Jose Carrizales.
“This is the first time we’ve won something like this,” said Carrizales, refer- ring to the Nevill Stakes, whose purse was increased from $30,000 in 2019 to $100,000 this year. “We’re just hoping it keeps coming like this.”
SS Classyjess was coming off of a Retama Park summer campaign during which she scored a 3/4-length victory
“I am very blessed to ride a horse like this,” Garcia stated. “I’ve worked him and everything, and he’s been doing real good, so thought he was going to do better in the race.”
Garcia was riding for trainer Alonso Neri.
“Honestly, he’s been one of the smoothest horses we’ve ever had,” Neri said. “He’s been doing everything very well since he qualified for the Firecracker Derby. In the Firecracker,
Homer A. Hill bred I Am Valiant out of winner Icy Valentine. She has produced 100% winners from five starters. I Am Valiant is her first stakes winner.
Wagons Dash (PYC Paint Your Wagon- Breitling Time) was 2nd under Everardo Rodriguez for Edward Scott & trainer Eric
Long. Kiss My Whuut (Kiss My Hocks-Not My Choice) was 3rd for Three Bar T Quarter Horses. The Toby Keeton trainee had Luis Vivanco aboard. Followed by BP Apollitcalcess (Apollitical Jess-Miss Cartels Success), A Painted Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-Third Painted Sign), Toreto (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Jess Braggin), Swingin Good Reason (Good Reason SA-Swingin Miss Jess), Sensational Senator (Louisiana Senator-I Opening Sensation) and Lovethewayyourun (One Dashing Eagle-Duplicate Check). Trump My Record was scratched.
Mr Tereso (Man Who Wouldbe King-My Cold Corona) pocketed $17,000 for owner Jose U. Oviedo. Luis Vivanco rode the multiple stakes winning and Grade 3-placed sophomore gelding for trainer Fernando Lopez.
Rogelio Marquez Jr.’s American Hussle (Apollitical Jess-Charming Cartel) earned $10,000 for his third-place run. Raul Ramirez Jr. rode the 4-year-old colt and $55,000 year- ling purchase for trainer Jesus M. Marquez.

he didn’t have the best start nor the best trip, but he was really showing improvement, so we kept at it and he’s been going at it, and he was able to prove himself here. He’s done well and he finished strong today.
“He’s a good quality horse, and he’ll be a tough contender in the next couple of races, whatever those are, so we’re really excited for him,” Neri concluded.
in the 350-yard $54,000 Miss Retama Stakes on July 24, and a wire-to-wire 1 1/2-length win in the 350-yard $40,000 Live Oak Stakes on Aug. 29. Raced in Texas and Louisiana, SS Classyjess has won 10 of 26 starts, and the $55,000 winner’s share of the purse from her fourth career stakes victory bumped her earn- ings to $181,013, of which $132,350 has been banked this season.
