OHA Mystery Futurity-RG2
JESS IS THE BOSS
by John Moorehouse
Jess Is The Boss picked a fine time to
return to the winner’s circle, capturing the $142,100 Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Mystery Futurity-RG2 at Will Rogers Downs on Sept. 27.
Rolando Ortiz’s two-year-old colt scored his second career victory and first since
he won his trial for the Remington Park Futurity-G1, where he placed third. After fin- ishing second in his qualify-
ing heat for this event, and
posting the sixth-best time,
Jess Is The Boss went into
the stakes final at 11-1 odds.
A Fidencio Jimenez trainee,
Jess Is The Boss ran at or near
the front for all 350 yards.
The colt broke on top from
the 2-post, was a close second
at the first call and going into
the stretch, then surpassed his
rival and hit the wire first by a
1/2-length margin.

Juan Pulido drew the riding assignment, steering Jess Is The Boss to victory in :17.532 for a 97 speed index while running into a 10 mph headwind. That was almost a half-
second faster than the colt’s performance in the trials. The victory produced a $57,340 prize for his connections, and improved the overall bankroll of Jess Is The Boss to $167,093.
Verle Bohner bred Jess Is The Boss and owns his dam, Bosanova
Baby, a 1999 mare. As
a competitor, Bosanova Baby scored four wins and competed in five restricted or graded stakes events. As a broodmare, she’s produced 28 offspring, 24 of which have made starts. Jess Is The Boss becomes the second stakes winner out of his dam. The other, Big Boi, won the 2013 running of the Oklahoma Derby as the
highlight in a career that included four wins and more than $400,000 in earnings.
Cindydoesitagain (Capo de Capi- Easydoesitcindy) finished second for owner Abel Flores and trainer Eddie D. Willis. Mario Delgado was in the irons. Dangerous Cartel (Coronado Cartel-Dangerous Dawn) made a steady run for third place underneath James Flores for owner Bill Underwood and trainer Terry Underwood.
Dalts Fancy Pistol (Im A Fancy PYC-Dalts Pistol), BV Austin (Mighty B Valiant-BV Ms James), Sin Sational Kisser (Kiss My Hocks-Sin Tacha Perry), Bpmysoutherndynasty (FDD Dynasty-BP Southern Mariah), Facing The Fire (Valiant Hero-DM Sashay N Fire), Peves Big Hoss (One Fabulous Eagle-Ima PYC China Doll) and Dynamo Snow (FDD Dynasty-A Snowy Cartel) completed the order of finish.
owner Guillermo Herrera and trainer Xavier Alonzo. The colt has won or placed in all four of his starts.
Jose Guzman’s Card One Starter (Docs Best Card-Stable Dancer) ran a gritty race to pocket third place money. The Alonso Neri trainee had Victor Urieta Jr. in the irons. The gelding finished second in the Old South Futurity at Delta Downs earlier this year. He has also won or placed in all of his seven starts.
His Time To Deal (Dealagame-Lady Lilia), Hechizero Lips (Jess Lips-Shazooms Sweet Bruja), Dash N Leader (Down N Dash-Cartel Leader), Hennessy XO TLC (The Louisiana Cartel-XO Kate), Lucchesse (Inseperable-Las Alamitos), Im Jess Dashing (Dash Master Jess-Im Not Hillary) and Air To Em Jess (Dash Master Jess-Processing Speed) completed the order of finish.

Nestor Duran has ridden One Incredible Hock twice and won both times. His first was in the Aug. 14 trial where they set the fast-
est mark, and his latest came in the $221,160 TQHA Sires Cup Futurity-RG3 finals.
Owned by Hernan and Maria Gama Medrano, the colt broke well from the 2-post and quickly moved to the front. They contin- ued to hold the lead throughout the 350 yards, crossing the finish line 3/4-length in front.
Trained by Adrian Huitron, One Incredible Hock stopped the clock in :17.679, which was good for a 95 speed index, and col- lected the $88,464 winner’s share of the purse.
His total lifetime earn- ings are now $119,976
and he has a race record of 5-3(1)-0-0. He was a final- ist in the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity-G1 earlier this year.
Monty McNair bred One Incredible Hock out of winner Enticilizeur, who was
a finalist in the Texas Classic Futurity-G1. She has produced 100% money earners from seven starters. One Incredible Hock is her first stakes winner.
“This colt was a $15,000 Heritage Place purchase,” said trainer Adrian Huitron.
“He was not comfortable running under the lights. We had to do a lot of work in that area,
but it’s paying off. He has always been a handful with anything we do to him. He pulled up fine after the futu- rity; we will go over him this week. If he’s 100 percent, we are looking at the Dash For Cash Futurity. If we have any doubts, we will wait for the Evangeline in Louisiana.”
