Instygator finished second and Jettz
came in fourth. That makes for a very memorable All American weekend for Bobby D. Cox. A big part of this memorable weekend is his longtime friend John Buchanan and that brings us to the pedigree story for Whistle Stop Cafe, the 2020 All American Futurity-G1 winner.
Bobby D. Cox places many of his foal crop in the annual yearling sales and that is how Whistle Stop Cafe got into the Heritage Place Yearling Sale. She was purchased
by Lainie and Ray Whitmire of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, for $42,000. The Whitmires, well known in the cutting and barrel racing segments of the industry, have owned and raced a number of horses. This list includes 2017 Champion Aged Stallion The Fiscal Cliff. The Whitmires purchased Whistle Stop Cafe on the recommendation of Blane Wood, the trainer of the 2018 All American Futurity winner Apocalyptical Jess.
Whistle Stop Cafe, under Wood’s guidance, made her first start in her
Heritage Place Futurity trial on May 8. She won, but only qualified for the Heritage Place Juvenile, where she won her second start. She then went to Ruidoso and made her next start in the trials for the Rainbow Futurity, winning this race to qualify
for the finals. She won the Rainbow Futurity-G1 on the 19th of July. This set her up for the All American Futurity.
The first day of the All American Futurity trials came on Aug. 21 and Whistle Stop Cafe was the fastest qualifier. The other four qualifiers were Jettz, Famous And Easy, Flash Bak and Caliente Caramelo. On the second day of trials, the fastest qualifier was Flashing My Pjs and she was the overall fastest qualifier for the two days. She was followed by Instygator, Apollitical Gold, Eagles And Dragons and HR Princess Jess. The track bias for the two days was obvious, as the times for the first day were slower than the times for the second day due to environmental factors. Whistle Stop Cafe was only the sixth fastest qualifier with a time of :21.615 with Flashing
The Whitmires purchased Whistle Stop Cafe on the recommendation of Trainer Blane Wood
