Fortunes Wild Blood became a stakes winner in his fourth career start with an upset victory in the $25,500 Crush the Curve Futurity on June 24 at
Pocatello Downs.
Ridden by Nakia Ramirez, Fortunes Wild
Blood broke sharply and assumed command at the break of the 300-yard test. He dueled with odds-on favorite The Prize Ferarri and jockey Jesus Canales through the lane and was never headed, crossing the finish line a 1/2-length in front of The Prize Ferrari. Fortunes Wild Blood stopped the timer in :15.585, good for a 96 speed index.
Owned by Kelly and Kyle Cook, Fortunes Wild Blood is trained by Jay Pitcher. The gelding won his June 3 trial heat and was the third-fastest qualifier for the main event. He has now won two of four starts and the $11,730 winner’s share of the purse increased his bankroll to $12,630.
Riley Blanchet bred Fortunes Wild Blood out
of Sam Houston Distaff Challenge winner Cartels Fortune. She has produced 100% money earners from three starters, including stakes placed Blues Forrtune.
The Prize Ferarri (The Louisiana Cartel-Ferarri Fast Prize) and jockey Jesus Canales secured second for owners RTM Stables, Robin and Kevin Dunn, and Bryon Goody, and trainer Mark Hanson.
Jess Dressed In Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Sonny D) and jockey Benito Baca finished third for RTM Stables, Robin Dunn, Larry Chapple, and Byron Goody. Hanson also saddled the third-place finisher.
Wildroses101 (Ja Jess Perfect-Weeds in My Roses), Pattys Saint (Jess Got Easier-SP Saint Patty), El Divo Moves (Maknmoves-James Diva), BW Easy Wagon (Wagons West-BW Easy de Lite), Cartels Breakout (Agouti-Jess Breakout) and Valientte (Valiant Hero-First Class Lacy B) completed the order of finish. BDS Carsons Pistol was scratched.
