 Jim Bader Futurity
RACING THE RAILS
by Michael Cusortelli
Cody Smith rode fastest qualifier Racing The Rails to a 1/2-length victory in the 350-yard $129,020 Jim Bader Futurity for
Iowa-breds at Prairie Meadows on Oct. 1. They broke second from the 2-gate and
were there at the first call. By the halfway mark they had taken the lead by a length, finishing 1/2-length to the good. The filly finished in :17.856, posting an 88 speed index, and earned the $58,059
winner’s share of the purse in her first stakes win.
Campaigned by Ricky Neff and co-owner/
trainer Tony Jones, she has raced exclusively at Prairie Meadows. She was coming off a head victory in the second of three trials. The filly has now won 3 of 5 starts and
has banked $74,762. She ran fifth in the $74,320 Hawkeye Futurity on July 9.
Racing The Rails was bred by Robert S. Brown and was foaled in Iowa.
The filly is out of One Famous
Hawkeye, a winning 10-year-old daughter
of Champion One Famous Eagle. She traces back to her third dam, Fortune Of Delight, a stakes-winning mare who ran second in the 1993 Rainbow Silver Cup-G1 at Ruidoso Downs. The sport’s 1999 Broodmare of the
year, Fortune Of Delight produced Champions A Delightful Dasher and Hes My Dasher and graded stakes winner A Delightful Legacy, all of whom were half siblings to Racing The Rails’ second dam, the unraced mare In A Small Package.
Third-fastest qualifier Lil Racy Blu (Racy Casanova- Lil Blue Runaway) finished second and earned $23,224 for his owner, Richard L.
Tobin. Trainer Tony Jones had jockey Stormy Smith in the irons. The gelding won his previous four outs, this being the first race he did not win in his career.
Dashin Davey Crocket (Lil Kool Wagon- Easy Sailin Kiss), the second-fastest qualifier, ran third under jockey Jose Beltran. The gelding is owned by James J. Leeper and trained by Manuel Campos. He won the $74,320 Hawkeye Futurity on July 9.
EC Wagon (EC Jet One-Boogie Wagon), Duke Of Cartel (Carters Cartel-Queen Of Anywhere), Tuffazznailz (Coronado Cartel- Tripled Effort), TS Attack The End (A Revenant-First Attack) and Joda Tempting Jet (Jet Black Patriot-Fabulously Tempting) completed the order of finish. Qualifiers Jesstrong Corona and Perrysfirstmoonflash were scratched.
