APOLLITICAL PENCE

Apollitical Pence accomplished much more than winning the Grade 1 Champion
of Champions at Los Alamitos on Dec. 11,
a major feat in itself. He became only the fourth horse ever to win the race two years consecutively. He and Really First Down gave owners Matt and Bendi Dunn and trainer Monty Arrossa a first and third in the 2021 edition. And Apollitical Pence bettered his 2020 winning time, coming closer to the track record set by his sire, Apollitical Jess.
Because of COVID restrictions in 2020, the Dunns didn’t travel to Los Alamitos for Apollitical Pence’s first win in the prestigious race.
“It was worth the wait,” Matt Dunn said after the 2021 race. “I came in with hope, but not real expectations. I knew we had some good shots, and at the same time you never know with these races and these good horses. I’m so glad we came out.”
