APOLLITICAL PAYOFF

Apollitical Payoff didn’t need to bribe any of his nine rivals in the $220,524 Black Gold Colts & Geldings Futurity Championship at Will Rogers Downs on Nov. 13. A strong effort and hard work down the lane proved enough to propel the two-year-old bay gelding to a win in the 400-yard event, securing the initial stakes win of his career.
Ridden by Jesus Salazar, Apollitical Payoff broke third from the 4-gate and raced in second in the early going.
He forged to the front in the lane at the top of the stretch by putting away early leader Hard Rock Candy and prevailed by a 1/2-length over Assaulte and jockey James Flores at the finish.
Apollitical Payoff stopped the timer in a brisk :19.642. The final clocking, which earned a speed index of 102, just missed the :19.361 track record set by Black Oak Special in 2010.
The $88,210 winner’s share of the purse increased the youngster’s career bankroll to
